91. In the non-support condition analysis, form alone is produced by conditions, for it does not obtain support. Though formlessness may not obtain object-support, proximity-support, or strong-support, there is nothing without immediately preceding support. Therefore, it is said, "Similar to the non-object condition." 92. In the non-pre-nascence condition, form produced by mind is stated in terms of the five aggregates. 93. In the non-post-nascence condition, the co-nascent and pre-nascence conditions are included. Therefore, the text here is similar to the co-nascent condition; the text is expanded in the non-dominance condition, but here it is condensed. In the non-repetition condition, wholesome and unwholesome qualities should be understood in terms of the first impulsion, as well as the inactive indeterminate. However, the text here is also expanded in terms of the non-dominance condition. It should be understood thus. Therefore, it was said, "Not like the post-arising condition, Nor like the habitual condition, Nor like the dominance condition." 94-97. In the non-kamma condition, Resultant volition is not included, Because it obtains the non-momentary kamma condition. In the non-nutriment condition, Only some material phenomena are condition-produced, Likewise in the non-faculty condition. 98. In the non-jhāna condition, Five consciousness-elements and some material phenomena are condition-produced. For in the five consciousnesses, Feeling and one-pointedness of mind, Being weak, Do not attain the characteristic of absorption, Therefore, they are not included in the jhāna condition. 99-102. In the non-path condition, Ahetuka resultant and functional phenomena, And some material phenomena are condition-produced. In the non-associated, non-presence, and non-disappearance conditions, Only material phenomena are condition-produced. Therefore, it was said, "Not like the object condition." 103. "Two in the non-root condition" means, According to the original text, It emerges as it is, In the calculation of single roots. 104. In the dual roots, "One in the non-object condition, non-root condition," Although in this case, When comparing a smaller count with a larger count, It should be two, Like the non-root condition, According to the smaller count. However, according to the non-object condition, Due to the reduction of immaterial phenomena, Referring to the arising of indeterminate phenomena, Dependent on indeterminate phenomena, "One" is said. This is the method in all single cases. However, in the place where "two" is said, The double occurrence should be understood, According to what is obtained in the non-root condition. 105-106. However, in all triple roots and so on, Since the non-object condition is not reduced, There is only one answer. This is the calculation in the opposite direction, Starting with the non-root condition, In single roots and so on. 107-130. However, the non-object condition and so on, In single roots, Are not shown here, Because they are similar to the previous ones. In the dual roots, According to the non-object condition, "Non-object condition," According to the non-root condition, "One," Has already been said in the non-root dual roots. "Five in the non-dominance condition" means, It should be understood according to what is obtained in the non-object condition. Thus, in all comparisons, The calculation should be understood, According to the condition of the smaller count. And wherever the non-object condition enters, there... It is only an approximation. In places where non-co-arising, non-immediately contiguous, non-mutually conditioning, non-supportive, non-nutriment, non-faculty, non-associated, non-presence, and non-absence conditions are involved, the same method applies. Nutriment, faculty, absorption, and path conditions have similar explanations everywhere. The four, beginning with non-co-arising, are also excluded here. This is the characteristic in this case. But by this characteristic, in all the dual-root conditions, etc., "this condition is a root, this is a dual-root, this is a triple-root, this is an all-root," having considered, the counting should be understood according to the lesser number of conditions. Explanation of Conditions and Non-Conditions. Explanation of Conditions-Forward and Non-Conditions. 131-189. Now, to show the counting in the forward and non-conditions, beginning with "from root condition, not object, five," etc. There, when root, dominance, and path conditions are established in the forward order, the four co-arising conditions, etc., which are conditions everywhere, and the four nutriment, faculty, absorption, and path conditions, these eight are not obtained from the non-condition. For a phenomenon arising by way of root condition, etc., there is no such thing as not obtaining these eight conditions. But when object, immediately contiguous, contiguous, supportive, associated, presence, and absence conditions are established in the forward order, those established in the immaterial realm are not obtained from the non-condition. For those arising by way of object condition, etc., do not obtain immediately contiguous conditions, etc. But when co-arising, mutual, dependence, karma, nutriment, faculty, presence, and absence conditions are established in the forward order, the four that are conditions everywhere are not obtained from the non-condition. For one arising by way of these conditions, there is no such thing as not obtaining what is established everywhere. There is no such thing as a place for the subsequent condition to be established in the forward order. Thus, in the remaining cases, having considered which are obtained and which are not obtained when established in the forward order, in all the dual-root conditions, etc., in the methods of comparing those conditions, the counting should be understood only according to the lesser number. Explanation of Conditions-Forward and Non-Conditions. Conditions-Non-Conditions-Forward. Commentary 190. Now, to show the calculation in the negative order, beginning with "two in object condition due to non-root condition," etc. There, when standing in the negative of root condition, setting aside dominance condition, the remainder are obtained in the positive order. But the subsequent is not obtained in the positive order in all cases; of the nine conditions said to be "only for immaterial things," setting aside the prenascent and the repetition, when standing in the negative of the remaining seven, the remaining immaterial-based ones are not obtained in the positive order. For what does not arise by object, etc., does not obtain contiguity, etc. But rebirth-result, though not arising from the prenascent, and all result together with functional mind-element from the repetition, obtain contiguity, etc.; therefore, it is said, "setting aside the prenascent and the repetition." When standing in the negative of prenascent, subsequent, repetition, result, and dissociation conditions, setting aside one, the remainder are obtained in the positive order. When standing in the negative of action condition, setting aside result condition, the remainder are obtained in the positive order. When standing in the negative of nutriment and faculty conditions, setting aside all-location and reciprocal action, nutriment, and faculty conditions, the remainder are not obtained in the positive order; the others are obtained in a combinable manner. When standing in the negative of absorption condition, root, dominance, repetition, and path conditions are not obtained in the positive order. When standing in the negative of path condition, root and dominance conditions are not obtained in the positive order. When standing in the negative of dissociation condition, setting aside prenascent condition, the remainder are obtained in the positive order. Thus, in those various conditions, when standing in the negative, knowing which ones are not obtained in the positive order, the calculation should be understood based on the lesser calculations in the combination of those various conditions. 191-195. And in the methods beginning with "root-duality," etc., whichever condition is taken as the beginning, whichever dyads, etc., are shown, as they are shown according to the obtainable and unobtainable conditions, so they should be well considered. There, what is d Beginning with "without roots," showing the method, "not root condition, not object condition," and so on, saying "up to repetition, all is similar" is stated. Its similarity should be understood by "not mutual condition, one in co-nascence," and so on. But what is written in the Sinhalese language, "not karma, in the count, five are taken," its meaning is: Beginning with "not root condition," and ending with "not karma condition," thus, in what is comprised by "not karma condition," one in co-nascence, thus, only these five conditions are shown to be obtained in order, not others. Thus, in other such places, without regard for the wording, only the intended meaning should be taken. For such wording was written by the ancients in their own languages for the purpose of their own understanding. Moreover, in this counter-order, in the conditioned phenomena, there is a phenomenon that obtains karma condition, but not faculty condition. That should be understood in the non-percipient beings and in the five-aggregate existence in terms of the life faculty of form. There is a phenomenon that obtains path condition, but not root condition. That should be understood in terms of delusion co-nascent with doubt and restlessness. There is a phenomenon that obtains absorption condition, but not path condition. That should be understood in terms of the mind-element and the rootless mind-consciousness element. Where the produced forms obtain karma condition only by the force of karma at different moments, there the form phenomena do not obtain
