(1) A state not to be grasped arises from a state to be grasped, by way of root condition – grasping arises from aggregates not to be grasped, grasping arises from the base. (2) States to be grasped and not to be grasped arise from a state not to be grasped, by way of root condition – from one aggregate not to be grasped, three aggregates, grasping, and mind-originated matter… (and so on)… from two aggregates… (and so on)… grasping arises from the base, mind-originated matter arises from the great elements, grasping and associated aggregates arise from the base. (1) A non-defiling phenomenon to a defiling phenomenon is a condition by root condition – non-defiling roots to defilement are a condition by root condition. (2) A non-defiling phenomenon to a defiling phenomenon and to a non-defiling phenomenon is a condition by root condition – non-defiling roots to associated aggregates and to defilement and to mind-originated material forms are a condition by root condition. (3) Object Condition 18. A defiling phenomenon to a defiling phenomenon is a condition by object condition – having taken defilement as object, defilement arises. (3) 19. Non-defiling A non-clinging phenomenon is a condition for a non-clinging phenomenon by way of object condition. Having performed generosity…etc… morality…etc… the Uposatha observance, one reflects on it, enjoys it, delights in it. Concerning that, lust…etc… doubt… restlessness… disappointment arises. Previously well-practiced deeds…etc… Having emerged from jhānas, they reflect on jhānas…etc… Having emerged from noble paths, they reflect on the path, they reflect on the fruit, they reflect on Nibbāna. Nibbāna is a condition for lineage-change, for purification, for the path, for the fruit, for advertence, by way of object condition. Noble ones reflect on non-clinging defilements that have been abandoned…etc… defilements that have been suppressed…etc… previously…etc… the eye…etc… the base.
