A phenomenon associated with hindrances, for a phenomenon associated with hindrances and for a phenomenon dissociated from hindrances… is a condition by co-existence. (3) 85. Unhindered phenomena are a condition for unhindered phenomena by way of object condition… by way of co-existence condition… by way of decisive support condition… by way of pre-existence condition… by way of post-existence condition… by way of kamma condition… by way of nutriment condition… by way of faculty condition. (1) Unhindered phenomena are a condition for hindered phenomena by way of object condition… by way of decisive support condition… by way of pre-existence condition. (2) Hindered and unhindered phenomena are a condition for hindered phenomena by way of co-existence, by way of pre-existence. (1) Hindered and unhindered phenomena are a condition for unhindered phenomena by way of co-existence, by way of post-existence, by way of nutriment, by way of faculty. (2) 2. Negative Conditions 2. Enumeration Section Pure 86. Not by root, seven; not by object, seven; not by dominance, seven; not by contiguity, seven; not by immediate contiguity, seven; not by co-existence, five; not by mutuality, five; not by support, five; not by decisive support, seven; not by pre-existence, six… etc. … not by path, seven; not by association, five; not by dissociation, four; not by presence, four; not by absence, seven; not by disappearance, seven; not by non-disappearance, four. Negative. 3. Positive-Negative Conditions Root Dyad 87. By root condition, not by object, four; not by dominance, four; not by contiguity, four; not by immediate contiguity, four; not by mutuality, two; not by decisive support, four… etc. … not by path, four; not by association, two; not by dissociation, two; not by absence, four; not by disappearance, four. 4. Negative-Positive Conditions 88. Not by root condition, by object, four; by dominance, five (positive enumeration)… etc. … by non-disappearance, seven. The Hindered Associated Dyad is finished. 47. The Hindrance-Hindrance-Related Dyad 1. Dependent Origination Section 1-4. Positive Conditions, etc. 89. Hindrance and hindrance-related And depending on a state, a hindering and to-be-hindered state arises due to a root condition – depending on the hindrance of sensual desire, the hindrance of sloth and torpor, the hindrance of restlessness, the hindrance of ignorance (arises). (Thus all enumerations are to be divided, similar to the pair of hindrances, with variations.) 7. The Chapter of Questions 1. Affirmative of Conditions 1. The Chapter of Analysis Root Condition 90. A hindering and to-be-hindered state is a condition by root condition for a hindering and to-be-hindered state – hindering and to-be-hindered roots are a condition by root condition for associated hindrances. (1) A hindering and to-be-hindered state is a condition by root condition for a to-be-hindered and not-hindering state – hindering and to-be-hindered roots are a condition by root condition for associated aggregates and mind-originated material forms. (2) A hindering and to-be-hindered state is a condition by root condition for a hindering and to-be-hindered state, and for a to-be-hindered and not-hindering state – hindering and to-be-hindered roots are a condition by root condition for associated aggregates and hindrances and mind-originated material forms. (3) A to-be-hindered and not-hindering state is a condition by root condition for a to-be-hindered and not-hindering state – to-be-hindered and not-hindering roots are a condition by root condition for associated aggregates and mind-originated material forms; at the moment of rebirth-linking... etc. (1) Object Condition 91. A hindering and to-be-hindered state is a condition by object condition for a hindering and to-be-hindered state – depending on hindrances, hindrances arise. (The root is to be asked.) Depending on hindrances, to-be-hindered and not-hindering aggregates arise. (The root is to be asked.) Depending on hindrances, hindrances and associated aggregates arise. (3) Hindering The state that is neither a hindrance nor not a hindrance is a condition by way of object-condition for the state that is both hindrancable and not a hindrance – generosity... morality... having performed Uposatha observance, one reflects on it, one relishes it, delights in it, on account of that, greed arises, wrong view... doubt... restlessness... displeasure arises; things well-practiced before... absorptions... Noble Ones reflect on the lineage-changing knowledge, purification... defilements abandoned... defilements suppressed... things accumulated before... the eye... the base... on the aggregates that are both hindrancable and not a hindrance, one sees impermanence... one relishes it, delights in it... displeasure arises; with the divine eye, one sees form... (to be done up to advertence). (1) The state that is both hindrancable and not a hindrance is a condition by way of object-condition for the state that is both a hindrance and hindrancable – generosity... morality... Uposatha observance... things well-practiced before... absorptions... the eye... the base... one relishes, delights in the aggregates that are both hindrancable and not a hindrance, on account of that, greed... wrong view... doubt... restlessness... displeasure arises. (2) The state that is both hindrancable and not a hindrance is a condition by way of object-condition for the state that is both a hindrance and hindrancable, and for the state that is both hindrancable and not a hindrance – generosity... morality... Uposatha observance... things well-practiced before... absorptions... the eye... the base... one relishes, delights in the aggregates that are both hindrancable and not a hindrance, on account of that, hindrances and associated aggregates arise (thus, the other three should also be done). (3) (The adhipati-conditions are similar to the ārammaṇa-conditions; the purejāta also similar to ārammaṇa. In upanissaya, the supramundane should not be done. This is abbreviated; it should be expanded in this way, just like the Nīvaraṇa-duka, it should be done by reflecting thus.) The Dyad of Hindrance and Hindrancable is finished. 48. The Dyad of Hindrance and Associated with Hindrance 1. The Conditional Section 1. Affirmative Condition 1. The Analysis Section Root Condition 92. Depending on a phenomenon that is both a hindrance and associated with hindrances, a phenomenon that is both a hindrance and associated with hindrances arises, by root condition— depending on the hindrance of sensual desire, the hindrance of sloth and torpor, the hindrance of restlessness, the hindrance of ignorance (a cycle. All hindrances should be made). (1) Depending on a phenomenon that is both a hindrance and associated with hindrances, a phenomenon that is associated with hindrances but is not a hindrance arises, by root condition— depending on hindrances, the associated aggregates. (2) Depending on a phenomenon that is both a hindrance and associated with hindrances, phenomena that are both a hindrance and associated with hindrances, and associated with hindrances but are not a hindrance, arise, by root condition— depending on the hindrance of sensual desire, the hindrance of sloth and torpor, the hindrance of restlessness, the hindrance of ignorance, and the associated aggregates (a cycle). (3) 93. Depending on a phenomenon that is associated with hindrances but is not a hindrance, a phenomenon that is associated with hindrances but is not a hindrance arises, by root condition— depending on one aggregate that is associated with hindrances but is not a hindrance, three aggregates…etc…two aggregates…etc…. (1) Depending on a phenomenon that is associated with hindrances but is not a hindrance, a phenomenon that is both a hindrance and associated with hindrances arises, by root condition— depending on aggregates that are associated with hindrances but are not hindrances, the hindrances. (2) Depending on a phenomenon that is associated with hindrances but is not a hindrance, phenomena that are both a hindrance and associated with hindrances, and associated with hindrances but are not a hindrance, arise, by root condition— depending on one aggregate that is associated with hindrances but is not a hindrance, three aggregates and the hindrances…etc…two aggregates…etc…. (3) 94. Depending on a phenomenon that is both a hindrance and associated with hindrances, and associated with hindrances but is not a hindrance, a phenomenon that is both a hindrance and associated with hindrances arises, by root condition— It arises by way of root condition: Depending on the hindrance of sensual desire and associated aggregates, the hindrance of sloth and torpor, the hindrance of restlessness, the hindrance of ignorance (arises). (Cycle) (1) Depending on a phenomenon which is both a hindrance and associated with a hindrance, and which is associated with a hindrance but not a hindrance, a phenomenon associated with a hindrance but not a hindrance arises by way of root condition: Depending on one aggregate associated with a hindrance but not a hindrance, and a hindrance, three aggregates (arise)...(etc.)... and two aggregates (arise)...(etc.). (2) Depending on a phenomenon which is both a hindrance and associated with a hindrance, and which is associated with a hindrance but not a hindrance, phenomena that are both a hindrance and associated with a hindrance, and associated with a hindrance but not a hindrance, arise by way of root condition: Depending on one aggregate associated with a hindrance but not a hindrance, and the hindrance of sensual desire, three aggregates (arise), the hindrance of sloth and torpor, the hindrance of restlessness, the hindrance of ignorance (arise)...(etc.)... and two aggregates (arise)...(etc.). (Cycle. Abbreviated.) (3) 1. Affirmative Conditions 2. Section on Enumeration 95.
