For those passing away from the five-constituent realm, for those in the formless realm, for them there... (etc.) For those arising in the five-constituent realm, for them there the mind-sphere will cease and the form-sphere will arise. (Q) For whom, where the form-sphere arises, for him, there will the dhamma-sphere cease? Yes. (A) Or for whom, where the dhamma-sphere... (etc.)? For all who are passing away, for those without form who are arising, for them there the dhamma-sphere will cease, but for them there the form-sphere will not arise. For those with form who are arising, for them... There the mind-object base will cease, and the form base will arise. 238. (A) For whom, where the mind base arises, for him, there will the mind-object base cease? Yes. (B) Or again, for whom, where the mind-object base will cease, for him, there will the mind base arise? For all who are passing away, for those arising without consciousness, for them, there the mind-object base will cease, but for them, there the mind base will not arise. For those arising with consciousness, for them, there the mind-object base will cease, and the mind base will arise. (D) The counter-individual. 239. (A) For whom the eye base does not arise, for him will the ear base not cease? For all who are passing away, for those arising without eyes, for them the eye base does not arise, but for them the ear base will not cease. For those attaining final Nibbāna in the five-constituent existence, for those who are last-existents in the formless realm, and those who, having arisen in the formless realm, will attain final Nibbāna, for them, passing away, for them the eye base does not arise, and the ear base will not cease. (B) Or again, for whom the ear base will not cease, for him does the eye base not arise? Yes. (A) For whom the eye base does not arise, for him will the nose base not cease? For all who are passing away, for those arising without eyes, for them the eye base does not arise, but for them the nose base will not cease. For those attaining final Nibbāna in the five-constituent existence, for those who are last-existents in the formless realm, and those who, having arisen in the form realm or the formless realm, will attain final Nibbāna, for them, passing away, for them the eye base does not arise, and the nose base will not cease. (B) Or again, for whom the nose base will not cease, for him does the eye base not arise? For last-existents, for those arising in the form realm, for them the nose base will not cease, but for them the eye base does not arise. In the five-constituent existence, those attaining final Nibbāna For those attaining Nibbāna in the formless, For those with their last existence, And for those who, having arisen in the form realm or formless realm, Will attain Nibbāna, For them, as they are passing away, The nose-faculty will not cease, And the eye-faculty will not arise. (A) For whom the eye-faculty does not arise, For them will the form-faculty not cease? For all those passing away, For those arising without eyes, For them the eye-faculty does not arise, But for them the form-faculty will not cease. For those attaining Nibbāna in the five-constituent existence, For those with their last existence in the formless, And for those who, having arisen in the formless, Will attain Nibbāna, For them, as they are passing away, The eye-faculty does not arise, And the form-faculty will not cease. (B) Or for whom the form-faculty... (etc.)? Yes. For whom the eye-faculty does not arise, For them will the mind-faculty... (etc.) ...the dhamma-faculty not cease? (A) For whom the nose-faculty does not arise, For them will the form-faculty not cease? For all those passing away, For those arising without noses, For them the nose-faculty does not arise, But for them the form-faculty will not cease. For those attaining Nibbāna in the five-constituent existence, For those with their last existence in the formless, And for those who, having arisen in the formless, Will attain Nibbāna, For them, as they are passing away, The nose-faculty does not arise, And the form-faculty will not cease. (B) Or for whom the form-faculty... (etc.)? Yes. For whom the nose-faculty does not arise, For them will the mind-faculty... (etc.) ...the dhamma-faculty not cease? For those who are fully extinguished, the nose base does not arise, and the phenomena base will not cease. Or for whom the phenomena base will not cease, for them the nose base does not arise? Yes. 241. For whom the form base does not arise, for them the phenomena base will not cease? For all who are passing away, and for those born in the formless realms, for them the form base does not arise, but for them the phenomena base will not cease. For those who are fully extinguished, for them the form base does not arise, and the phenomena base will not cease. Or for whom the phenomena base will not cease, for them the form base does not arise? Yes. 242. (A) For whom the mind base does not arise, for them the phenomena base will not cease? For all who are passing away, and for those born without mind, for them the mind base does not arise, but for them the phenomena base will not cease. For those who are fully extinguished, for them the mind base does not arise, and the phenomena base will not cease. (B) Or for whom the phenomena base will not cease, for them the mind base does not arise? Yes. 243. Where the eye base does not arise... 244. (A) For whom, where the eye base does not arise, for them, there the ear base will not cease? For those passing away from the five-constituent realms, and for those born without eyes in the sense-sphere realm, for them, there the eye base does not arise, but for them, there the ear base will not cease. For those fully extinguished in the five-constituent realms, and for non-percipient beings, and for those in formless realms, for them, there the eye base does not arise, and the ear base will not cease. (B) Or for whom, where the ear base will not cease, for them, there the eye base does not arise? Yes. (A) For whom, where the eye base does not arise, for them, there the nose base will not cease? For those passing away from the sense-sphere realm, and for those born without eyes in the sense-sphere realm, for them, there the eye base does not arise... (For those arising in the form-sphere,) for them there the eye-base does not arise, but for them there the nose-base will not cease. For those attaining final Nibbāna in the sense-sphere, for those passing away from the form-sphere, for non-percipient beings, for formless beings, for them there the eye-base does not arise, and the nose-base will not cease. (B) Or again, for whom, where the nose-base will not cease, for him there does the eye-base not arise? For those arising in the form-sphere, for them there the nose-base will not cease, but for them there the eye-base does not arise. For those attaining final Nibbāna in the sense-sphere, for those passing away from the form-sphere, for non-percipient beings, for formless beings, for them there the nose-base will not cease, and the eye-base does not arise. (A) For whom, where the eye-base does not arise, for him there will the mind-base not cease? For those passing away from the five-constituent existence, for those without eyes arising in the sense-sphere, for formless beings, for them there the eye-base does not arise, but for them there the mind-base will not cease. For those attaining final Nibbāna, for non-percipient beings, for them there the eye-base does not arise, and the mind-base will not cease. (B) Or again, for whom, where the mind-base will not cease, for him there does the eye-base not arise? Yes. (A) For whom, where the eye-base does not arise, for him there will the phenomena-base not cease? For all, and For those passing away, for those without eye-faculty, for those reappearing, for them, there, the eye-base does not arise, but for them, there, the mind-object base will not cease. For those fully extinguished, for them, there, the eye-base also does not arise, and the mind-object base also will not cease.
