Is craving for mental objects greed, not the origin of suffering? Yes. Is craving for forms greed, not the origin of suffering? It should not be said so... Is craving for mental objects greed, not the origin of suffering? Yes. Is craving for sounds... Is craving for smells... Is craving for tastes... Is craving for tactile objects greed, not the origin of suffering? It should not be said so... Is craving for forms greed, the origin of suffering? Yes. Is craving for mental objects greed, the origin of suffering? It should not be said so... Is craving for sounds... Is craving for tactile objects greed, the origin of suffering? Yes. Is craving for mental objects greed, the origin of suffering? It should not be said so... 684. Is craving for mental objects not the origin of suffering? Yes. Has it not been said by the Blessed One – "This craving, which leads to renewed existence, accompanied by delight and lust, delighting in this and that, namely – craving for sensual pleasures, craving for existence, craving for non-existence!" Is there such a discourse? Yes. Therefore, it should not be said – "Craving for mental objects is not the origin of suffering." 685. Should it not be said – "Craving for mental objects is not the origin of suffering"? Yes. Is that not craving for mental objects? Yes. If that is craving for mental objects, then indeed it should be said – "Craving for mental objects is not the origin of suffering." The discussion on "Craving for mental objects is not the origin of suffering" is concluded. The Thirteenth Chapter. Its summary – One who endures an eon, may endure an eon. One who endures an eon, may not attain a wholesome mind. A person immediately engaged in woe, may enter the fixed course of rightness. One who is fixed, enters the fixed course. One who is covered, abandons hindrances. One who is present, abandons fetters. Delight in jhāna. Lust for the unpleasant. Craving for mental objects is indeterminate. Craving for mental objects is not the origin of suffering.
