Contact, volition, initial application, sustained application, one-pointedness of mind, faculty of faith, faculty of energy, faculty of mindfulness, faculty of concentration, faculty of wisdom, faculty of life, right view, right intention, right effort, right mindfulness, right concentration, power of faith, power of energy, power of mindfulness, power of concentration, power of wisdom, power of shame, power of dread of wrongdoing, non-greed, non-hatred, non-delusion, non-covetousness, non-ill-will, right view, shame, dread of wrongdoing, tranquillity of body, tranquillity of mind, lightness of body, lightness of mind, malleability of body, malleability of mind, adaptability of body, adaptability of mind, proficiency of body, proficiency of mind, straightness of body, straightness of mind, mindfulness, clear comprehension, tranquillity, insight, exertion, non-distraction. Or whatever other formless phenomena there are at that time, dependently arisen, excluding the aggregate of feeling, excluding the aggregate of perception, excluding the aggregate of consciousness – this at that time is the aggregate of formations…etc… these phenomena are wholesome. At that time, when a wholesome consciousness of the sense-sphere arises, accompanied by equanimity, dissociated from knowledge, taking as its object a visible form, or a sound, or an odor, or a taste, or a tangible object, or a mental object, or whatever else it takes as its object, at that time there is contact, there is feeling, there is perception, there is volition, there is consciousness, there is initial application, there is sustained application, there is equanimity, there is one-pointedness of mind, there is the faculty of faith, there is the faculty of energy, there is the faculty of mindfulness, there is the faculty of concentration, there is the faculty of mind, there is the faculty of equanimity, there is the faculty of life, there is right thought, there is right effort, there is right mindfulness, there is right concentration, there is the power of faith, there is the power of energy, there is the power of mindfulness, there is the power of concentration, there is the power of shame, there is the power of dread, there is non-greed, there is non-hatred, there is non-covetousness, there is non-ill-will, there is shame, there is dread, there is tranquility of body, there is tranquility of mind, there is lightness of body, there is lightness of mind, there is pliancy of body, there is pliancy of mind, there is adaptability of body, there is adaptability of mind, there is proficiency of body, there is proficiency of mind, there is uprightness of body, there is uprightness of mind, there is mindfulness, there is tranquility, there is exertion, there is non-distraction; and whatever other formless states, dependently arisen, exist at that time – these states are wholesome...etc.... What states are wholesome? At the time when one develops the path to rebirth in the form-sphere, with the calming of initial application and sustained application, with internal assurance and one-pointedness of mind, one enters and dwells in the second absorption, which is without initial application and sustained application, born of concentration, with rapture and pleasure… having attained and dwells in the earth kasina, at that time there is contact, there is feeling, there is perception, there is volition, there is consciousness, there is joy, there is happiness, there is one-pointedness of mind, there is the faculty of faith, there is the faculty of energy, there is the faculty of mindfulness, there is the faculty of concentration, there is the faculty of wisdom, there is the faculty of mind, there is the faculty of mental pleasure, there is the faculty of life, there is right view, there is right effort...etc... there is exertion, there is non-distraction; and whatever other formless states, dependently arisen, exist at that time – these states are wholesome...etc.... Contact, volition, joy, one-pointedness of mind, the faculty of faith, the faculty of energy, the faculty of mindfulness, the faculty of concentration, the faculty of wisdom, the faculty of life, right view, right effort...etc... exertion, non-distraction; and whatever other formless states, dependently arisen, exist at that time, excluding the aggregate of feeling, excluding the aggregate of perception, excluding the aggregate of consciousness – this is the aggregate of formations at that time...etc... these states are wholesome. 163. Which states are wholesome? At the time when one develops the path to rebirth in the fine-material realm, and from the fading of joy, one dwells equanimous, mindful and clearly comprehending, and experiences happiness with the body, which the noble ones declare – "equanimous, mindful, dwelling in happiness" – having attained and dwells in the third jhāna, the earth kasina, at that time, contact...
