Perception of non-ill-will, Perception of non-harming. Three unperverted perceptions: Perception of impermanence, Perception of suffering, Perception of non-self. Three wholesome actions: Wholesome bodily action, Wholesome verbal action, Wholesome mental action. Three Purifications: bodily purification, verbal purification, mental purification; Three accomplishments: accomplishment in morality, accomplishment in concentration, accomplishment in wisdom. Three trainings: training in higher morality, training in higher mind, training in higher wisdom; Three groups: group of morality, group of concentration, group of wisdom. Three doors to liberation: emptiness, signlessness, desirelessness. Thus indeed, from four they become three, from three they become two: the one whose conduct is craving, and the one whose conduct is views. For these two persons, this is the defilement: craving, and ignorance, and shamelessness, and fearlessness of wrongdoing, and lack of mindfulness, and lack of clear comprehension, and unwise attention, and laziness, and ill-spokenness, and 'I'-making, and 'mine'-making, and lack of faith, and heedlessness, and not listening to the good Dhamma, and lack of restraint, and covetousness, and ill-will, and hindrances, and fetters, and anger, and resentment, and denigration, and domineering, and envy, and stinginess, and deceit, and treachery, and eternalism, and annihilationism. For these two persons, this is the cleansing: tranquility, and insight, and shame (at wrongdoing), and fear of wrongdoing, and mindfulness, and clear comprehension, and wise attention, and energetic effort, and good-spokenness, and knowledge of Dhamma, and inferential knowledge, and knowledge of destruction, and knowledge of non-arising, and faith, and heedfulness, and listening to the good Dhamma, and restraint, and non-covetousness, and non-ill-will, and liberation of mind through dispassion for lust, and liberation of wisdom through dispassion for ignorance, and realization, and fewness of wishes, and contentment, and non-anger, and non-resentment, and non-denigration, and non-domineering, and abandoning of envy, and abandoning of stinginess, and knowledge, and liberation, and liberation with a conditioned object, and liberation with an unconditioned object, and Nibbāna element with residue remaining, and Nibbāna element without residue remaining. This is called the method of the three persons, and the method of the goad, the ground. Therefore it is said: "who leads the unwholesome by its roots," and "having looked with the eye of direction." Established is the arising of the method.
