403. Having abandoned home, I went forth into homelessness; Before half a month had passed, I attained the Four Noble Truths. 404. Robes and almsfood, requisites, lodging and seats; Many people offer, just like waves in the ocean. 405. My defilements are burnt... I dwell without defilements. 406. Welcome indeed it was for me... the Buddha's teaching has been fulfilled. 407. The four analytical knowledges... the Buddha's teaching has been fulfilled. 408. Thus manifold suffering, and manifold blessings; Having attained the state of purity, I obtain all blessings. 409. She who gives herself, for the sake of merit to the great seer; The blessing of companionship becomes the unconditioned state of Nibbana. 410. Completely exhausted are the past, the present, and the future; All my kamma is exhausted, I pay homage at the feet of the One with Vision. 411. And in a hundred thousand eons, and four immeasurable ones; A Conqueror named Dīpaṅkara, the leader of the world, arose. 412. Dīpaṅkara, the Great Hero, the Guide, declared; Sumedha and Sumittā, sharing joy and sorrow. 413. Seeing the world with devas, wandering with devas; In their proclamation, we, having approached the assembly. 414. Be our lord of all, in future gatherings. All your wives were pleasing and sweet-speaking. 415. All generosity and morality, and well-cultivated meditation; And for a long time, all of us have renounced, Great Sage. 416. Perfume, unguents, garlands, and jewel-lamps; Whatever was desired, all of it, has been renounced, Great Sage. 417. Or any other deed done, and human enjoyments; For a long time, all of us have renounced, Great Sage. 418. Through many births in transmigration, much merit was done by us; Having enjoyed sovereignty, and wandered through existence after existence. 419. When the last existence was reached, in the Sakyaputta's dwelling; Born into various families, celestial nymphs of charming appearance. 420. Having attained fame through gain, honored and respected by all; Recipients of food and drink, we were always highly esteemed. 421. Having abandoned the household, we went forth into homelessness; Before half a month had passed, all of us attained Nibbāna. 422. Recipients of food and drink, and robes, lodgings, and seats; All requisites come to us, always respected and honored. 423. Our defilements are burnt, the craving for existence is uprooted; We are Arahants with taints destroyed, we dwell without taints. 424. Indeed, it was a good coming for us, in the presence of the best of Buddhas; The three knowledges have been attained, the Buddha's teaching has been done. 425. The four analytical knowledges, and these eight liberations; The six supernormal powers have been realized, the Buddha's teaching has been done. 426. Eighteen thousand bhikkhunis of Sakyan origin; led by Yasodharā, approached the Fully Awakened One. 427. Eighteen thousand, all were greatly powerful; Bowing at the Sage's feet, they reported according to their ability. 428. Birth is destroyed, old age, sickness, and death, Great Sage; The taintless, peaceful state, the deathless, we have reached, Leader. 429. If there was any fault before, of all, Great Sage. Not knowing the offense, forgive us, Leader. 430. “‘And show your power, you who do my bidding; And for all assemblies, cut off doubt as far as it goes. 431. “‘Yasodharā, Great Hero, pleasing, lovely to behold; All are your, Great Hero, wives in the household. 432. “‘Of a hundred thousand women, ninety-six besides; In your household, Hero, we are foremost, all are rulers. 433. “‘Endowed with beauty and virtue, in the prime of youth, sweet-spoken; All revere us, as humans revere deities. 434. “‘Eighteen thousand, all born of the Sakyas; Yasodharās, thousands, were foremost, rulers then. 435. “‘Having transcended the sense-sphere, established in the form-sphere; There is none equal in beauty, among thousands, Great Sage. 436. “‘Having saluted the Fully Awakened One, they showed power to the Teacher; Many and of various kinds, they displayed great powers. 437. “‘Make your body like the cosmos, your head to the north; Both wings two continents, Jambudīpa your body. 438. “‘The right a feather, the various branches leaves; The moon and sun your eyes, Mount Meru your crest. 439. “‘The Cakkavāḷa mountain your beak, the Jambu tree with its roots; Approaching, fanning, they saluted the Leader of the World. 440. “‘They showed the form of an elephant, likewise a horse, a mountain, a sea; The moon and sun, Meru, and the form of Sakka. 441. “‘We, Yasodharās, Hero, salute your feet, O Seer; By your long-standing power, we have come to be, Leader of men. 442. “‘We are masters of powers, of the divine ear-element; Of the knowledge of others’ minds, we are masters, Great Sage. 443. “‘We know past lives, the divine eye is purified; All defilements are exhausted, there is no more rebirth now. 444. “‘In meaning, doctrine, language, and likewise in ready wit; Our knowledge, Great Hero, has arisen in your presence. 445. “‘The gathering of past World-Leaders, our... shown. Many were our endeavors, for your sake, Great Sage. 446. “‘The wholesome deeds we fulfilled, remember them, Sage of the lake; For your sake, Great Hero, our merits were accumulated. 447. “‘Avoiding the impossible, we restrained improper conduct; For your sake, Great Hero, our lives were sacrificed. 448. “‘Tens of thousands of crores, we gave for a wife; We were not displeased by that, for your sake, Great Sage. 449. “‘Tens of thousands of crores, we gave for helpers; We were not displeased by that, for your sake, Great Sage. 450. “‘Tens of thousands of crores, we gave for food; We were not displeased by that, for your sake, Great Sage. 451. “‘Tens of thousands of crores, we sacrificed lives; We will make an escape from fear, we sacrificed lives. 452. “‘Ornaments on the body, many various garments; We did not hide women's goods, for your sake, Great Sage. 453. “‘Sacrifice of wealth and grain, villages and towns; Fields, sons, and daughters, were given up, Great Sage. 454. “‘Elephants, horses, and cows, maidservants and attendants; For your sake, Great Hero, innumerable things were given up. 455. “‘What you asked us for, we would give gifts to beggars; We did not see displeasure in ourselves, giving the supreme gift. 456. “‘Many various sufferings, in many kinds of existences; For your sake, Great Hero, innumerable were endured. 457. “‘We rejoiced in happiness, and were not downcast in suffering; We were balanced in all things, for your sake, Great Sage. 458. “‘Following the path, the Buddha, brought forth the Dhamma; Having experienced happiness and suffering, he attained enlightenment, Great Sage. 459. “‘Brahma, Deva, and the Buddha, Gotama, leader of the world; With other world-protectors, our association with them was great. 460. “‘Many were our endeavors, for your sake, Great Sage; Seeking the Buddha-Dhamma, we are your attendants.” In a hundred thousand aeons, and four incalculable ones; The great hero Dīpaṅkara, the leader of the world, arose. In a border region, having invited the Tathāgata; They, with joyful minds, cleared the path of his coming. At that time, there was a brahmin named Sumedha; He prepared the path for the all-seeing one. At that time, we were all born of brahmins; We brought land-born flowers to the assembly. At that time, the Buddha, Dīpaṅkara, of great fame; The great hero, declared the fate of the sage with uplifted mind. The earth trembled and roared, it shook with the devas; As his deed was proclaimed, the sage with uplifted mind. Deva maidens and humans, and we too with the devas; Having worshipped with various offerings, made aspirations. To them, the Buddha declared, named Jotīdīpa; "Those aspirations you have today, they will come to pass." In countless aeons from now, what the Buddha declared to us; Approving of that word, we acted accordingly. For that well-done deed, they gladdened his mind; Having experienced countless divine and human existences. Having experienced happiness and suffering, among devas and humans; When the last existence arrived, we were born in the Sākiya clan. Possessing beauty, possessing wealth, possessing fame and virtue; We are endowed with all perfections, honored in our families. Gain, renown, honor, the coming together of worldly conditions; Our minds are not distressed, we dwell without fear from anywhere. This was said by the Blessed One, in the king's inner palace then; Among the Khattiyas, O hero, he pointed out the helpfulness. And the woman who is helpful, and the woman in joy and sorrow; And the woman who explains the meaning, and the woman who is compassionate. Practice the Dhamma well, do not practice ill; One who practices Dhamma sleeps happily, in this world and the next. Having abandoned home, we went forth into homelessness; Before half a month had passed, we touched the Four Noble Truths. Robes and alms food, lodgings and seats; Many bring them to us, like waves of the ocean. Our defilements are burnt, all existences uprooted; Like a serpent breaking its bonds, we dwell without taints. Welcome indeed it was for us, in the presence of my Buddha; The three knowledges attained, the Buddha's teaching done. The four analytical knowledges, and these eight liberations; The six supernormal powers realized, the Buddha's teaching done. Thus manifold suffering, and various kinds of prosperity; Having attained purity, we gain all accomplishments. Those who give themselves, for the sake of merit, great seers; They become companions in prosperity, to the unconditioned state of Nibbāna. Exhausted is the past, the present, and the future; All our kamma is also ended, we bow at the feet of the Seer. To those speaking of Nibbāna, what more shall we tell you? For you have reached the deathless state, free from the defilement of conditioned things.
