Gain of food and drink, and long life is my fifth. 163. Whoever, generating faith, should give gruel to the Saṅgha; These five states, that wise one would receive. 164. All that was to be done has been done, existences have been uprooted by me; All defilements are destroyed, there is no rebirth now. 165. So I shall wander, from village to village, from town to town; Revering the Fully Awakened One, and the well-taught nature of the Dhamma. 166. In thirty thousand aeons, since I gave that gift then; I do not know a bad destination, this is the fruit of the gruel-gift. 167. My defilements are burnt... ...I dwell without taints. 168. Indeed, it was a good coming for me... ...the Buddha's teaching has been done. 169. The four analytical knowledges... ...the Buddha's teaching has been done. The elder spoke these verses. The eighth, the Apadāna of Elder Yāgudāyaka. 9. The Apadāna of Elder Patthodanadāyaka 170. Formerly I was a forest dweller, constantly working in the forest; Taking my cooked rice, I went to my work. 171. There I saw the Fully Awakened One, the Self-Existent, the Unconquered; Coming out of the forest for alms, seeing him, my mind became clear. 172. Engaged in others' work, I had no merit; This cooked rice I have, I will feed the Sage. 173. Taking the cooked rice, I gave it to the Self-Existent One; While I was contemplating, the Sage then partook of it. 174. By that well-done deed, and by my aspirations; Leaving my human body, I went to Tāvatiṃsa. 175. Thirty-six times I was the lord of devas, ruling as king of devas; Thirty-three times I was a king, a Wheel-turning Monarch. 176. Vast regional kingdoms, innumerable in count; I am happy and glorious, this is the fruit of the cooked rice. 177. Wandering through existences, I obtain immeasurable wealth; There is no lack in my enjoyments, this is the fruit of the cooked rice. 178. Like a river's current, my enjoyments arise; I cannot measure them, this is the fruit of the cooked rice. 179. "Eat this, enjoy this, sleep on this couch"; Therefore I am happy, this is the fruit of the cooked rice. 180. Ninety-four aeons ago, the gift I then gave; I do not know misfortune, this is the fruit of the cooked rice. 181. My defilements are burnt away... I dwell without taints. 182. My coming was indeed welcome... the Buddha's teaching has been done. 183. The four analytical knowledges... the Buddha's teaching has been done. Thus indeed, the Venerable Patthodanadāyaka Thera spoke these verses. The ninth, the Apadāna of Elder Patthodanadāyaka. 10. The Apadāna of Elder Mañcadāyaka 184. When the Fully Extinguished One O compassionate one, Siddhattha, leader of the world; Spreader of the teaching, Honored by devas and humans. 185. I was a Caṇḍāla there, A maker of chairs and stools; By that work I lived, By that I supported my children. 186. Having made a well-crafted chair, With my own hands, delighted; Going myself, I gave it to the Sangha of bhikkhus. 187. By that well-done deed, And by my aspirations and resolves; Having abandoned my human body, I went to Tāvatiṃsa. 188. Having gone to the deva-world, I rejoice among the host of devas; Precious couches Appear as I wish. 189. Fifty times as lord of devas, I ruled the deva-kingdom; Eighty times as a king, I was a wheel-turning monarch. 190. Vast regional kingships, Countless in number; I am happy and famous, This is the fruit of the gift of a couch. 191. Descending from the deva-world, If I come to human existence; Precious and good couches Appear for me by themselves. 192. This is my last, My final existence; Even today, at bedtime, A couch appears. 193. Ninety-four aeons ago, When I gave that gift; I have known no bad destination, This is the fruit of the gift of a couch. 194. My defilements are burnt away... I dwell without taints. 195. Welcome indeed it was for me... The Buddha's teaching has been done. 196. The four analytical knowledges... The Buddha's teaching has been done.
