81. Having made a hermitage there, I lived in the hermitage; My walking path was well-made, Frequented by various flocks of birds. 82. They came to me trustingly, And chirped charmingly; Delighting with them, I lived in the hermitage. 83. Near my hermitage, A four-footed king of beasts; Having come forth from its lair, Roared like thunder. 84. When the king of beasts roared, Laughter arose in me; Searching for the king of beasts, I saw the leader of the world. 85. Having seen the god of gods, Tissa, the foremost leader of the world; Joyful with a joyful mind, I worshipped with nāgakesara flowers. 86. Like the rising sun, Like a flowering sal tree, Like a shining medicinal herb, I praised the leader of the world. 87. ‘By your knowledge, Omniscient One, You liberated this world with its devas; Having pleased you, They are freed from birth. 88. ‘By not seeing, Omniscient One, The all-seeing Buddhas; They fall into Avīci hell, Overwhelmed by lust and hatred. 89. ‘Having come to see you, Omniscient One, leader of the world; All beings are liberated, They touch the deathless state. 90. ‘When the Buddhas, those with eyes, Arise, bringing light; Having burned up defilements, They show the light.’ 91. Having praised the Fully Awakened One, Tissa, the foremost leader of the world; Joyful with a joyful mind, I worshipped with a grass-thorn (roof). 92. Knowing my intention, Tissa, the foremost leader of the world; Having sat on his own seat, Recited these verses. 93. ‘He who covered me with flowers, pleased with his own hands. Him I shall praise, listen to my words. 94. ‘‘‘Twenty-five times he will be king of devas; And seventy-five times he will be a wheel-turning monarch. 95. ‘‘‘Extensive regional sovereignty, countless in number; From the result of that action, and from the offering of flowers. 96. ‘‘‘If this person, having bathed his head, desires flowers; Associated with meritorious deeds, they will appear before him. 97. ‘‘‘Whatever he desires with his wishes, that will appear; Having fulfilled his aspirations, he will attain Nibbāna, taintless.’ The Eighteenth Recitation Section. 98. ‘‘Having burnt away defilements, mindful and aware; Sitting on one seat, I attained arahantship. 99. ‘‘Walking, lying down, sitting, or standing; Remembering the Best of Buddhas, I always dwell. 100. ‘‘In robes, almsfood, requisites, and lodging; There is no deficiency for me, this is the fruit of Buddha-worship. 101. ‘‘Now I have attained the Deathless, the supreme peaceful state; Having fully understood all taints, I dwell taintless. 102. ‘‘Ninety-two aeons ago, when I offered flowers; I do not know a bad destination, this is the fruit of Buddha-worship. 103. ‘‘My defilements are burnt away…etc.… I dwell taintless. 104. ‘‘Welcome indeed it was for me…etc.… the Buddha’s teaching has been done. 105. ‘‘The four analytical knowledges…etc.… the Buddha’s teaching has been done.’’ Thus indeed, the Venerable Tiṇasūlakachādaniya Thera spoke these verses. Having gone to the assembly, I took one bowl; Having filled that bowl, I gave it to the community of monks. Whoever was the elder monk there, He then dedicated to me; "By this filling of the bowl, May you obtain abundant happiness. Having enjoyed two attainments, Impelled by the root of merit; In the last existence, He will burn away defilements." Having made my mind serene there, I went to Tāvatiṃsa; Having eaten and drunk there, I obtain abundant happiness. In a pavilion or at the foot of a tree, I remembered my former deed; A shower of food and drink for me, Rains down immediately. This is my last, My final existence; Even here, food and drink for me, Rains down at all times. By that very honey-gift, Having run through existences, I; Having fully understood all defilements, I dwell without defilements. Ninety-one eons ago, What gift I gave then; I do not know a bad destination, This is the fruit of the honey-gift. My defilements are burnt away... I dwell without defilements. Not far from the pyre, I lit a lamp; Until the sun rose, my lamp burned. 127. By that well-done action, and by my aspirations; Leaving the human body, I went to Tāvatiṃsa. 128. There, my well-made mansion, is known as Ekadīpi; Hundreds of thousands of lamps, blaze in my mansion. 129. Beyond walls, beyond rocks, surpassing mountains; I see with my eye, a hundred yojanas all around. 131. Seventy-seven times, I delighted in the deva world; Thirty-one times, I ruled as king of devas. 132. Twenty-eight times, I was a Wheel-turning Monarch; Vast provincial kingdoms, innumerable in count. 133. Having fallen from the deva world, I was reborn in a mother’s womb; Even while in the mother’s womb, my eye did not close. 134. At four years of age, I went forth into homelessness; Before half a month had passed, I attained Arahantship. 135. I purified the divine eye, all existences are uprooted; All defilements are cut off, this is the fruit of the single lamp. 136. Beyond walls, beyond rocks, and even beyond mountains; I see surpassing them, this is the fruit of the single lamp. 137.
