These, monks, are the ten states to be expelled. The Tenth. 11. The First Discourse on the Adept 111. Then a certain monk approached the Blessed One; having approached, he saluted the Blessed One and sat down to one side. Seated to one side, that monk said to the Blessed One: “‘Adept, adept’ it is said, venerable sir. To what extent, venerable sir, is a monk an adept?” “Here, monk, a monk is endowed with adept right view, endowed with adept right intention, endowed with adept right speech, endowed with adept right action, endowed with adept right livelihood, endowed with adept right effort, endowed with adept right mindfulness, endowed with adept right concentration, endowed with adept right knowledge, endowed with adept right liberation. It is in this way, monk, that a monk is an adept.” The Eleventh. 12. The Second Discourse on the Adept 112. “These ten, monks, are the states of an adept. Which ten? Adept right view, adept right intention, adept right speech, adept right action, adept right livelihood, adept right effort, adept right mindfulness, adept right concentration, adept right knowledge, adept right liberation – these, monks, are the ten states of an adept.” The Twelfth.
