If it is suitable for the Saṅgha, the Saṅgha should give to the monk Udāyī one day's probation for this one offense, an intentional emission of semen, concealed for one day. This is the announcement. "May the Saṅgha, Venerable Sirs, hear me. This monk Udāyī has fallen into one offense, an intentional emission of semen, concealed for one day. He asks the Saṅgha for one day's probation for this one offense, an intentional emission of semen, concealed for one day. The Saṅgha gives to the monk Udāyī one day's probation for this one offense, an intentional emission of semen, concealed for one day. If it is agreeable to any venerable one that the monk Udāyī be given one day's probation for this one offense, an intentional emission of semen, concealed for one day, he should remain silent; whoever does not agree, should speak. "A second time I state this matter... (etc.) a third time I state this matter... (etc.) "Given by the Saṅgha to the monk Udāyī for this one offense, an intentional emission of semen, concealed for one day, is one day's probation. It is agreed. It is for the Sangha, therefore be silent, thus I hold this. Penance for a one-day concealed offense. 104. He, having completed the probation, informed the bhikkhus: "Friends, I committed one offense, an intentional emission of semen, concealed for one day. So I asked the Sangha for one day's probation for that one offense, an intentional emission of semen, concealed for one day. The Sangha granted me one day's probation for that one offense, an intentional emission of semen, concealed for one day. I have completed the probation. What now should I do?" They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "In that case, bhikkhus, let the Sangha grant the bhikkhu Udāyī six nights' penance for that one offense, an intentional emission of semen, concealed for one day. And thus, bhikkhus, it should be granted – "Therefore, bhikkhus, the bhikkhu Udāyī, having approached the Sangha... ...he should be addressed thus: 'Venerable sirs, I committed one offense, an intentional emission of semen, concealed for one day. So I asked the Sangha for one day's probation for that one offense, an intentional emission of semen, concealed for one day. The Sangha granted me one day's probation for that one offense, an intentional emission of semen, concealed for one day. Venerable sirs, I have completed the probation, and I ask the Sangha for six nights' penance for that one offense, an intentional emission of semen, concealed for one day.' To the bhikkhu, for one offense of intentional emission of semen, concealed for one day, a one-day probation was given. He, having completed the probation, requests from the Sangha a six-night penance for one offense of intentional emission of semen, concealed for one day. If it is suitable for the Sangha, the Sangha should give to the bhikkhu Udāyī a six-night penance for one offense of intentional emission of semen, concealed for one day. This is the motion. "May the Sangha, venerable sirs, listen to me. This bhikkhu Udāyī committed one offense of intentional emission of semen, concealed for one day. He requested from the Sangha a one-day probation for one offense of intentional emission of semen, concealed for one day. The Sangha gave to the bhikkhu Udāyī a one-day probation for one offense of intentional emission of semen, concealed for one day. He, having completed the probation, requests from the Sangha a six-night penance for one offense of intentional emission of semen, concealed for one day. The Sangha gives to the bhikkhu Udāyī a six-night penance for one offense of intentional emission of semen, concealed for one day. To whichever venerable one the giving of a six-night penance to the bhikkhu Udāyī for one offense of intentional emission of semen, concealed for one day, is agreeable, let him be silent; to whom it is not agreeable, let him speak." The Sangha granted me a one-day probation for that one offense of intentional emission of semen, concealed for one day. Having completed the probation, I requested the Sangha for six nights of mānatta for that one offense of intentional emission of semen, concealed for one day. The Sangha granted me six nights of mānatta for that one offense of intentional emission of semen, concealed for one day. I have completed the mānatta. "How should I proceed now?" They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "In that case, monks, let the Sangha rehabilitate the monk Udāyī. And this is how, monks, he should be rehabilitated – "Monks, the monk Udāyī, having approached the Sangha, should be addressed thus – 'Venerable sirs, I committed one offense: intentional emission of semen, concealed for one day. I requested the Sangha for a one-day probation for that one offense of intentional emission of semen, concealed for one day. The Sangha granted me a one-day probation for that one offense of intentional emission of semen, concealed for one day. Having completed the probation, I requested the Sangha for six nights of mānatta for that one offense of intentional emission of semen, concealed for one day. Venerable sirs, I have completed the mānatta, and I request the Sangha for rehabilitation.' A second time he should request. A third time he should request. Having completed the probation, he asked the Sangha for six nights of penance for the emission of semen with intention, concealed for one day. The Sangha gave the bhikkhu Udāyī six nights of penance for the emission of semen with intention, concealed for one day. Having completed the penance, he asks the Sangha for rehabilitation. A third time I speak on this matter.... The bhikkhu Udāyī has been rehabilitated by the Sangha. It is agreeable to the Sangha, therefore it is silent; thus I hold this to be." Probation for five days of concealment 108. Now at that time, the venerable Udāyī had committed an offense, an emission of semen with intention, concealed for two days... concealed for three days... concealed for four days... concealed for five days. He informed the bhikkhus: "Friends, I have committed an offense, an emission of semen with intention..." one emission of semen, concealed for five days. "How indeed should I act?" They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Therefore, monks, let the Saṅgha give Udāyī the bhikkhu a five-day probation for one offense of intentional emission of semen, concealed for five days. And thus, monks, it should be given: "Therefore, monks, Udāyī the bhikkhu, having approached the Saṅgha, having arranged his upper robe over one shoulder, having bowed at the feet of the elder monks, having squatted, having raised his joined hands, should be addressed thus: 'Venerable sirs, I have committed one offense of intentional emission of semen, concealed for five days.
