Instructing King Trisong Detsen, it was hidden as a precious treasure. Treasure seal. Hidden seal. Entrusted seal. Secret seal. In Sanskrit: Nidhi Hrdaya Rantakuta Tantra. In Tibetan: The Treasure Heart, the Tantra of the Pile of Jewels. Homage to the Bhagavan, the Primordial Buddha, Immutable Light. Thus I have heard, at one time when I spoke from the realization of my own nature, in a place of naturally complete purity, the palace of the ground of all, in the center of the vast expanse of the mind of the ground of all, in the space of unobstructed clear light, in the sky of the all-arising radiance of jewels, clear light without obscuration, in that very place of purity, without changing causes and conditions, in that place without limits or partiality, dwells the Buddha of the first beginning, the unchanging light. At that time, the retinue of radiant wisdom was also like this: the retinue of unceasing radiant light, the retinue of wisdom, mind, thought, memory, and intellect, and the retinue of self-nature was also like this: the retinue abiding in self-nature, the retinue contemplating self-nature, and the retinue realizing self-nature. Furthermore, the retinue of great maturation was also like this: the Bodhisattva of the cause, the Bodhisattva of the path, and the Bodhisattva of the fruit. This, the king of teachings, the Tantra of the Treasure Heart, the Pile of Jewels, was spoken in a time without distinction of the three times, without before or after. From the Tantra of the Treasure Heart, the Pile of Jewels, the first chapter, the Perfection of the Introduction. Then, the King of Wisdom asked the Primordial Buddha of the First Beginning: What is the method for cutting off the root of delusion and realizing the ground? The Teacher spoke to the assembly: The ground is without name, without substance, primordially pure, beyond mind, without example, without words, without terms, spontaneously perfect, all-encompassing, yet without anything, the unchanging ground of all, the impartial space. Thus he spoke. From the Tantra of the Treasure Heart, the Pile of Jewels, the second chapter, the Teaching of the Ground. Then, the King of Wisdom asked the Primordial Buddha of the First Beginning: How does one become deluded without realizing primordial purity? The Teacher spoke to the assembly: The ground has no delusion or non-delusion.

Without limits! In terms of skill, there arise both delusion and non-delusion. Not realizing primordial purity is delusion. Not realizing non-inherent existence is experiencing suffering. Not realizing reality is wandering in samsara. Not distinguishing differences is the darkness of ignorance. Not grasping one's own ground is being deluded in the six realms. Like heat haze, a rope, and a mirage, it's similar to someone mistaking a rope for a snake, or mistaking dry land for water. Originally, it's not on the ground, but it's grasped by conceptual thought. Faults, errors, and suffering are endless. Thus it was said. From the Tantra of the Heap of Precious Treasure Essence, the chapter on showing delusion, the third chapter. Then, the King of Intelligence asked the primordial Buddha: How is delusion completely cut off from its root? The Teacher spoke to the assembly: When the delusion of the ground is completely cut off, mother and child meet. When delusion is cut off, it becomes space, sealed with a mudra. When the three realms and six realms are completely cut off, there is not even the name of ignorance and samsara. Like salt dissolving in water, or poison being subdued by a mantra. Thus it was said. From the Tantra of the Precious Treasure Essence, the chapter on showing the cutting off of the root, the fourth chapter. Then, the King of Intelligence asked the primordial Buddha: How is the primordial purity of non-inherent existence realized? The Teacher spoke to the assembly: The method for realizing the primordial purity of non-inherent existence is: it arises from realization that is effortless and beyond thought, not from view, meditation, or action. That all-ground of nothingness and appearance, non-inherent existence, is free from desire, beyond mind, without thought, clear and radiant. Empty-clear primordial sound, radiant, the realm of non-inherent existence. In the clear sound, there is no name for anything. Realize the primordial purity of reality, beyond mind. Thus it was said. From the Tantra of the Heap of Precious Treasure Essence, the chapter on showing the method of realization, the fifth chapter. Then, the King of Intelligence asked the primordial Buddha: How is the great rejection? The Teacher spoke to the assembly: In primordial purity, non-inherent existence, and reality, there are no Buddhas, enlightenment, or Dharma. There is no visualization of the body or the five families of deities. There are no signs of experience, signs of realization, or names of clairvoyance. There is no samsara, nirvana, existence, non-existence, permanence, or annihilation. For the activities of attachment and aversion in samsara, if the mind follows, it is also an unexamined delusory appearance. Delusory appearances, attachment and aversion, will always deceive. Therefore, abandon the activities of samsara. If you are attached, even if you are attached to a deity, you will fall. Do not have attachment or aversion to anything. Thus it was said. From the Tantra of the Heap of Precious Treasure Essence, the chapter on rejection.
