The buddhas' intention is transmitted through the vidyadharas' symbols. Those individuals who are most fortunate among people have attained the path of the holy ones, perfecting both aims. Homage to the lamas of the three lineages! In the expanse where phenomena cease, you realized the dharmakaya's intention. In the realm of clear light, you beheld the sambhogakaya's pure lands. In the perception of those to be tamed, you performed the activities of the nirmanakaya. Homage to Kunkhyen, the King of Dharma! With wisdom, you see the reality of all that can be known. The rays of your loving-kindness shine as the glory of those to be tamed. You illuminate the profound path, the teachings of the supreme vehicle. Homage to the vidyadhara Jigme Lingpa! Taking the form of Avalokiteshvara, the spiritual friend, with the light of your speech, you lead all who connect to the path of liberation. Your boundless activities tame beings according to their needs. Homage to the kind root lama! The complete teachings, the treatises of the Kunkhyen lineage, the heart-essence instructions, the dharma for attaining buddhahood in one lifetime, the preliminary practices of the path, both common outer and inner, the parts of the instructions, including the near path of transference—all are clear, easy to understand, profound in meaning, and wondrous. The unerring instructions of the incomparable lama, as they are truly ascertained in my own mind, I will explain here. May the deities and lamas bless my being! Here, the common outer and inner preliminary practices of the Great Perfection Longchen Nyingtik, as they are according to the oral tradition of the incomparable and holy lama, are written down in this memorandum, in three parts: the common outer preliminary practices, the uncommon inner preliminary practices, and the instructions on the near path of transference, which is a part of the actual practice.
