Collected Teachings of Je Tsongkhapa JTs118, 'The Cloudless Instruction' and the surrounding retinue of Hayagriva and the four Shwana. Homage to the Guru Manjushri! The method of 'Cloudless': Spread out a rotten cloth with the mantra written on it in front of you, use the rotten cloth as a seat, and sit comfortably. Take refuge and generate Bodhicitta, then purify all phenomena into emptiness with स्वाभाव (svabhāva). From emptiness, on top of various lotuses and sun discs, from the syllable 吽 (hūṃ) arises a red lotus marked with 吽 (hūṃ). Transforming from that, one becomes oneself as the wrathful king Hayagriva, with a red-colored body and faces of red, black, and white. Above the main face is a green horse head. Of the eight hands, the first right hand makes the gesture of a trident banner, with the thumb pressing the little finger and the remaining three fingers extended; the second holds various vajras; the third holds a sword; the fourth holds an arrow. The first left hand holds various lotuses; the second holds a spear; the third holds a mirror; the fourth holds a bow. Of the four legs, the two front legs are extended to the right, and the two back legs are extended to the left, pressing down on Vinayaka and Ishvara. With the sound of 吽 (hūṃ), all malicious beings are subdued. The body is extremely large, complete with all the wrathful demeanor and ornaments. On its crown is 嗡 (oṃ), at its throat is 阿 (āḥ), and at its heart is 吽 (hūṃ). From the 吽 (hūṃ) radiates light, inviting the wisdom being identical to oneself from its natural abode, and offering. Offer with ཛཿཧཱུཾ་བཾ་ཧོཿ (jaḥ hūṃ baṃ hoḥ). Again, radiate light and invite the empowerment deities, offer, and supplicate. The body is filled with empowerment water, and the remaining water swirls upwards, visualizing Amitabha as the head ornament on the crown of the main face. Offer with mantras such as Praise with whatever praise you know. Visualize that the red, vast tongue arising from the 吽 (hūṃ) stirs and devours all the clouds, and when exhaling, it scatters the clouds into fine dust. From the heart, emanate immeasurable wrathful hosts holding various weapons, with flames blazing from their bodies, dispelling all clouds. By reciting 嗡 达惹札 雅达惹札 雅夏玛夏纳 札雅 帕特 梭哈 (oṃ tarja ya tarja ya śama śana priya ya phaṭ svāhā), it will be accomplished, said the incomparable Je Losang Drakpa. This instruction on stopping rain through Hayagriva was also spoken by Je Losang Drakpa, to be used when excessive rain causes houses to collapse. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Moreover, when the fields suffered from severe rain damage, this seems to be the instruction given in response to the previous request. Sarva Mangalam! Homage to Hayagriva (Horse-necked One) surrounded by four dogs. First, take refuge and generate Bodhicitta. Then, in the heart, on a lotus and sun disc, light radiates from the Hūṃ (ཧཱུྃ, hūṃ, hūṃ, seed syllable). Invite all the Gurus, Buddhas, and Bodhisattvas in the sky, and perform the seven-branch offering. Meditate on the four immeasurables. Accumulate the accumulation of merit. Then, purify with emptiness (svabhāva). From that state, from the Hūṃ (ཧཱུྃ, hūṃ, hūṃ, seed syllable) arises a hub of various vajras, marked with Hūṃ (ཧཱུྃ, hūṃ, hūṃ, seed syllable), from which rays of light radiate in the ten directions. Above, everything is a vajra canopy; below, everything is a vajra ground; in all directions, everything is a vajra fence; outside, everything is a protective wheel of blazing wisdom fire, which even the wind of the eon's destruction cannot penetrate. In the center of that, from Bhrūṃ (བྷྲུཾ, bhrūṃ, bhrūṃ, seed syllable) arises a four-sided palace of various jewels, complete with four doors and all characteristics. In the center, from Paṃ (པཾ, paṃ, paṃ, seed syllable) arises a lotus, and from Raṃ (རཾ, raṃ, raṃ, seed syllable) arises a sun disc. On top of the sun disc, from Hrīḥ (ཧྲཱིཿ, hrīḥ, hrīḥ, seed syllable) arises a five-pronged golden vajra, marked with Hrīḥ (ཧྲཱིཿ, hrīḥ, hrīḥ, seed syllable), radiating light, gathering and merging, the main deity and retinue of five appear simultaneously in complete form. Visualize clearly: oneself as red in color, with three faces, six arms, and four legs. The main face is the same color as the body, the right face is white, and the left face is green. Possessing three red, round eyes, glaring fiercely, baring fangs. Eyebrows and beard are reddish-yellow, blazing upwards. Hair is yellowish-brown, standing on end, from which three green horse heads emerge, neighing. Adorned with three skull crowns, and a necklace of fresh heads. Decorated with five types of snakes. The first of the right hands holds a five-pronged golden vajra, the second holds a golden lasso, and the third holds a sandalwood club. The first of the left hands holds a skull cup filled with blood at the heart, the second holds a sword, and the third hand has fingers raised and extended, from which emanate the rays of the five families, cutting through all the malicious. The upper body is covered with an elephant hide, and the lower body wears a tiger skin skirt. The four legs, with the right leg slightly bent and the left leg extended, stand in a heroic posture on top of eight snakes and bells, pressing down on Brahma and Indra. With a wrathful roar, the sound of which is more terrifying than all fears in the three realms. To the east is Vajra… --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
