The Differentiation of Mind and Wisdom The Differentiation of Mind and Wisdom There are two differentiations of mind and wisdom. First, the eight differentiations of mind are: location, essence, path, gate, object, function, activity, and result. Location: In the lungs, there are minute vascular tubules filled with air, which serve as the basis for the spread of all breaths, connected to the heart, that is the location. Essence: It is the discriminating thought arising from the mixture of the heart's luminosity and air. Path: The veins through which air travels from the lungs to each branch, enabling the five senses to perceive their objects; these are the veins through which air flows in each of the sense organs, such as the mouth and nose. Gate: Each of the sense organs, and the mouth and nose. Object: The six objects of the six aggregates, such as form. Function: These are the various conceptualizations, such as grasping and rejecting, affirming and denying. Activity: It accumulates afflictions and numerous habitual patterns. Result: It generates all the sufferings of samsara. Second, the eight differentiations of wisdom are: Location: In the center of the jewel-like citta, resembling an overturned umbrella, relying on a minute essence like a mustard seed at the center of the four branches of the luminous veins. Essence: It is the wisdom of awareness, the essence of emptiness, the nature of clarity, and the compassion that is without cessation, blazing with light and form like the wick of a lamp, and its function is that the mandala of wrathful deities abides in the skull cavity. Path: The vein connecting the heart to the eye is the kati vein, which has the structure of a crystal tube. The manner of connection is that from the tip of the heart it winds around the spine, from the small protuberances on the right and left sides of the throat it winds around the two ears, and from the brain it pierces into the two aqueous lamps of the eyeballs and abides there. Gate: From where does it arise? It arises from the two eyes. The root of the eye vein is connected to the navel and the heart. The heart is connected to the throat. From the throat, spiraling to the right into the skull cavity, one of the veins that branches into four petals, which causes the sense organs to perceive their objects, divides into five tips. These serve as the basis for each of the five senses and are called the veins that purify karma, faults, virtues, and faculties. In Kashmir, it is called "the horn of a sheep with roots like fine threads." Two branches pierce into the two essences of the eyeballs, producing something clear and bright, with the nature of water, half black and half white, which is called the far-reaching water lamp.

Through this, the empty essence of the bindu appears like the colors of a peacock's tail. Its sound, the pure essence of the bindu, appears like the vowel 'na ro.' Its power, the self-arisen wisdom of the bindu, appears as various powers of knowledge. Among these, the crystal tube is the light channel, and the purifier of the senses is the channel that serves as the basis for the eye, like a saffron flower. The awareness within the eye looks outward, and the door between the inner and outer appearances, the appearances of the realm of form looking inward, is like a flawless crystal that separates them. The inner radiance is clear outward, and the outer images appear inward, so that the two are not obscured but seen clearly. There are four channels through which the sound of awareness appears: from the two eyes, the light of reality appears outward; from the heart, through the central channel, from the essence of the clear light channel, appears the wrathful deity of the conch chamber, and its sound, the bindus of all the channels; from the central light channel, appears the great clear light bindu in the center of the four chakras; and from the crown of the head, appears the non-conceptual pure channel. The perfected bindu, appearing as five or nine layers, is the sacred channel door for transference, which has a basis. From the heart to the lungs, the sound of awareness appears as mind. Thus, the two eyes, the central light channel, and the sound channel of the lungs are all included. Ordinary people who identify the two eye channels as the path are simply mistaken due to their limited understanding. Identify the four channels through which the four sounds appear. During practice, awareness emerges from the eyes. From the two eyes, the light of the nature of awareness appears; from the central light channel, the empty sound of essence appears; and from the lung channel, the compassionate sound of awareness appears. Where does it appear? In the outer realm of space, and in the inner realm of space, it appears within the pure bindu of five lights. The power of awareness is that the inner light appears as the five wisdoms of all-knowing wisdom, and the outer light appears as the aspects of knowing things as they are and as many as they are. The activity is to completely separate from the illusory appearances and clinging of samsara, and to unite with the state of primordial space. The result is that the obscurations of the elements, and the parts based on the alaya consciousness of various habitual tendencies, are completely purified, like the sun free from clouds. With the stainless light of wisdom and awareness, self-realization of enlightenment is achieved.

Thus, having reached the ultimate accomplishment, one constantly abides in the intention of body and wisdom. There are two times when mind and wisdom meet: outer meeting and inner meeting. Outer meeting is when, at the time when the mind is free from elaboration, the radiance of awareness of the mind's part dissolves into the heart, it is called the meeting of the mind on inner awareness. The distinction between mind and wisdom.
