The Sadhana of Amitayus. The Sadhana of Amitayus. Om Swasti! Just by hearing his name, One draws near to the state of immortality. I prostrate with reverence to Amitayus, And write this wondrous sadhana of his. Preceded by refuge and bodhicitta, face the east and abide in the pride of whichever deity is your yidam. In the sky before you, visualize the Bhagavan, Victorious Amitayus, his body the color of reddish-yellow, possessing exceedingly brilliant ornaments, wearing the three saffron-colored robes of a monk, seated in vajra posture upon a lotus and moon cushion, his two hands in the gesture of meditative equipoise, holding a vase filled with the nectar of immortal wisdom, his form complete with all the marks and signs. "I take refuge in the Three Jewels," etc., once. "Om Vajra Ayushe Sara Hakarare Sharare Hum Phet" (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Chinese literal meaning). Recite this twenty-one times, then join your palms and pray: "Bhagavan Amitayus, please bless me with immeasurable life and wisdom." Three times. When exhaling, visualize the vase as empty. When inhaling, visualize the essence of nectar entering through your nostrils and filling your entire body, especially the channels of your heart, and then swallow your saliva seven times. Then, recite as much as you can: "Om Amarani Jivantiye Svaha" (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Chinese literal meaning). And recite the long-life mantra "Om" twice, about twenty-one times. Amitayus dissolves into light and enters through the crown of your head, filling your entire body. Dedicate the merit. If you wish to perform the recitation practice of this, begin on an auspicious morning of the waxing moon, with good astrological signs, in any of the four directions. Bathe, face the east, and recite. For daily practice, recite the root mantra one hundred and eight times in the morning. If signs of death appear, reciting it one thousand and eight times can avert untimely death, it is said. The tradition of merely bestowing meditation instructions when accepting students for this practice is common. If performing the vase ritual, place the vase in the center of a mandala with eight lotus petals and a cluster, as usual. Incense with gugul and cast out obstacles with a torma. Purify into emptiness with Svabhava. From emptiness, from Bhrum (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Chinese literal meaning) arises the vase, filled with nectar arising from Bam (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Chinese literal meaning), upon which, visualize Amitayus as before. After reciting as much as possible, make offerings and praise. Pray and receive the siddhis,

The syllable ྷa dissolves into light and becomes nectar. The disciples offer the mandala. All-knowing Yeshe Phungpo and others make supplications, and perform the continuous confession that comes from the tent. The disciple has the pride of an ordinary person. Taking the blessing from focusing on the pride of Amitayus, without differentiating the visualized deity and the guru, is similar to the method of accomplishment of visualization. The difference is that the seven-branch offering is not needed here. When inhaling, give a vase of water. Recitation is done together by both the master and the disciple. When Amitayus dissolves into the crown of the head, a vase is placed on the crown of the head, and pouring the vase water is the practice. The actions after the disciple and the visualized deity are the same as the common ones. From the words of the accomplished queen, passed down joyfully to Rechung's ear. Bur Gom's oral instructions, the heart advice of Taklungpa, are written clearly. This is a chapter on the practice method of the incarnate Amitayus according to the Rechungpa tradition. May it flourish and increase. The Practice of Amitayus.
