A Clarification of the Intentions of Khenchen Shakya Riwang A Clarification of the Intentions of Khenchen Shakya Riwang Namo Guru. Sanskrit Romanization: Namo Guru, Literal Chinese Meaning: Homage to the Guru). The essence of practice has been reached, The three crucial words of advice, Surely beneficial when needed, Seem to encompass all the essentials of Dharma. Whatever arises immediately is like a mirage, With the resonance of appearance, devotion arises, this is one. To the six realms of beings, the force of compassion, Abandoning attachment, bias, and clinging to things, this is two. This mind, the king of awareness, free from extremes, Primordially, maintain it without fabrication or distraction, this is three. These three key points combined into one, Are a Dharma that is beneficial whenever needed. That is, happiness and suffering, Joy and displeasure, The aspects of attachment and hatred, etc., Whatever arises, high or low, hope or fear, Smash the appearance that exists as if it doesn't, like a mirage, with the syllable 'A' (Tibetan: ཨ, Sanskrit Devanagari: अ, Sanskrit Romanization: a, Literal Chinese Meaning: None), From that state free from affirmation, negation, acceptance, and rejection. The resonance of awareness, clear and empty, without grasping, Just from this arising of devotion and longing for the lama, The illusions of the bardo, etc., are decisively cut through. Furthermore, beings who have not realized that the nature of reality is like the sky, And appearances are like illusions, how pitiful! Thus, clear compassion arises, free from near and far, bias and partiality, When looking at one's own face, Remaining still in the state of non-grasping and non-attachment, Just meditating on this alone, Is something that expels the realm of suffering. Whether the mind stays or moves, At that very moment, Whatever arises, without fabrication, naturally, Remaining undistracted in that state or self-arising, Meditating on how all that arises abides in that space, Causes the self-nature of all afflictions to collapse. If each of these three key points is sufficient, What need is there for contemplation when all three are combined into one? By cultivating unfabricated awareness, Clear compassion arises for those who have not realized it. When that compassion arises like a mirage, Thus, devotion and longing arise for the lama who teaches it. Practicing the three key points is actually one key point. The appearance of death is an illusion, The appearance of this life is a dream, The bardo is also conceptual thought, Taking birth is also an illusion, If hope and fear arise, then obtain the key of 'Phat' (Tibetan: ཕཊ, Sanskrit Devanagari: फट, Sanskrit Romanization: phaṭ, Literal Chinese Meaning: Cut!). Excellent, excellent! Release from the trap of beauty, Completely abandon what arises on its own, It is necessary to rest in the unconditioned state, Whatever you do becomes artificial, Unconditioned!

I have not found a single artifice, The very nature of artifice, Is it not present within that which is unartificial? If understood, that alone is sufficient, There is no need for a time of decision. Therefore, rest in a state of non-doing. If it suits the mind, it is a pith instruction, What use is mere chatter? If one can understand whatever arises, The king of pith instructions is right here. Thus, to awaken the mind of the great abbot of the assembly, Shakya Riwang, Tāranātha spoke. Tashi (Auspicious)! To awaken the mind of Khenchen Shakya Riwang.
