The Quintessential Instructions on the Union of Skillful Means and Wisdom The Quintessential Instructions on the Union of Skillful Means and Wisdom To me, the mantra holder Tashi Tobgye, here it must be said: Those assemblies of scholars who mainly engage in eloquent terminology, mistake conceptual words for the definitive meaning. Some of lesser intelligence abandon calm abiding and insight meditation, turning instead to listening and contemplation. Merely through unknowing, blind meditation, arrogance arises, and there are also those who pass their time with mistaken practices. They are exceedingly far from recitation, diligence, abandonment, emptiness and compassion, and the supreme enlightenment that is free from elaborations. All the Sutra treatises, all the Secret Mantras, and all the pith instructions, flow and converge into this. The root of all Dharmas is the single mind itself, the nature of mind is primordially unproduced, appearance is emptiness. These various appearances of good and bad, pleasure and pain, are the unobstructed power of self-display, therefore, do not hope or worry, but remain naturally. In the state of recognizing the nature, let go of fixation without direction. This is the ultimate of dispelling obstacles and increasing benefit. Even when diligently striving to accomplish siddhis and activities, practice without wavering from the sphere free from hope and worry. This is the quintessential instruction called the Union of Skillful Means and Wisdom. Mangalam! Auspicious! The Quintessential Instructions on the Union of Skillful Means and Wisdom
