6) The Vows of Mind Training 6) The Vows of Mind Training Sixth, regarding the vows of mind training, it says, "Always train in the three essentials." This means that mind training does not contradict the vows, that is, the three vows are not stained by the defilements of transgressions, and the vows are not broken. Without self-cherishing, one abandons cutting down the poisonous tree of hoping for others' wealth, disturbing the spring, overturning the divine image, associating with lepers and beggars, etc., thus making the conduct pure and not biased towards one side. That is, one does not train the mind by being biased towards enemies or friends, or one can endure the harm of spirits but not the present harm, or one can endure enemies and friends but not suffering, or one can endure all of these but lose the Dharma in happiness, etc., not being biased towards one side, but training in all things such as happiness and suffering, good and bad circumstances. Transform aspirations and remain in one's own place. That is, transform the aspiration of self-cherishing and not cherishing others, and abandon self-grasping. Furthermore, do not reveal flaws, remain in one's own place. Do not speak of others' faults. That is, do not speak of others' faults, and do not think of any faults of others. If one sees any fault in others, one should think, "My own perception is impure." One does not know whether they really have such a fault, because one's own perception is impure. Likewise, the Teacher, the Bhagavan, was also seen as having faults, one should think like that, and one should cut off the faults of one's own mind. Train first in whatever affliction is greatest. That is, examine one's own mindstream, and whatever affliction is greatest, one should pile all the Dharma on top of that. Abandon all hope for results. That is, by meditating on mind training, one hopes to subdue gods and demons, etc., or one hopes to be seen as a superior person. Repaying harm with benefit, etc., are all deceptions, so one should abandon them. The saying "abandon poisonous food" means that virtuous deeds arising from self-cherishing and belief in inherent existence are poisonous, so one should know them as illusory and abandon clinging. Do not rely on goodness, which means not to harbor resentment for the harm done by others. Do not be fierce with evil, which means not to dig up the faults of others. Do not wait for an opportunity, which means that even if many years have passed since others have done harm, one should not forget and wait for an opportunity to retaliate. Do not strike at the point, which means not to expose people's scars, and not to speak

Do not speak harshly, do not recite the life mantras of non-humans, etc., do not speak words that cause pain to others' minds. Do not say, "Do not let the ox carry the mule's burden," do not blame others for bad things, and do not use cunning means to transfer difficult tasks that befall you to others. "Do not degrade the deity into a demon," if your mind becomes rigid after practicing mind training, it is like degrading a deity into a demon. By practicing the Dharma even a little, you should make your mind more and more subdued. The so-called "do not expect an empty stomach," if you practice mind training hoping for the pacification of disease, the pacification of evil spirits, and the aversion of adverse conditions, it is like performing sacrifices, witchcraft, and reciting Bon scriptures. You should abandon arrogance, attachment, hope, and doubt and practice. The so-called "do not seek suffering in the limbs of happiness" means that if the patron becomes sick or dies, there will be an opportunity to accumulate merit; if monastic friends or Dharma friends die, there will be scriptures, statues, etc.; if someone equal to you dies, you will think that only I will have merit; if the enemy dies, you will feel satisfied. In short, you should abandon the hope that others will suffer and be displeased for your own happiness. 6) Sixth, the vows of mind training.
