5) The Measure of Mind Training. 5) The Measure of Mind Training. Fifth, the measure of mind training is: All dharmas converge into one intention. This means that the intention of all the Dharma is to subdue self-grasping. Therefore, while practicing mind training, it is necessary to make self-cherishing smaller and smaller. Drink the chief of the two witnesses, meaning one needs to have an honest mind that does not deceive oneself. Constantly rely only on mental happiness, meaning that no matter what misfortune and suffering occur, fear and aversion should never arise, but rather they should become a support for virtuous practice, so that there is no unhappiness due to the occurrence of unpleasant things, etc. Even if distracted, one can overcome, then it is accomplished. This means that even if one does not deliberately subdue with antidotes, nor hold on with mindfulness, on top of all enemies, friends, happiness, suffering, and harm-doers, the mind of enlightenment arises effortlessly and simultaneously. These four are the measure of having reached the essential point of mind training. Even if one has these, it does not mean that one does not need to practice meditation later. 5) The Measure of Mind Training.
