2) The Actual Practice of Cultivating the Two Bodhicittas. 2) The Actual Practice of Cultivating the Two Bodhicittas. Secondly, the actual practice of cultivating the two Bodhicittas includes the incidental meditation on ultimate Bodhicitta and the main meditation on conventional Bodhicitta. Meditating on Ultimate Bodhicitta. First, consider all phenomena to be like dreams. Examine the nature of unborn wisdom. The antidote itself is also liberated in its own place. The essence remains in the state of the Alaya. The essential point of what is said is: the preliminary and subsequent practices are as before. The actual object of focus is: all these objects that appear outwardly and inwardly, although they appear to be true, are illusions of one's own mind. In reality, there is no establishment whatsoever, so they are like dreams. After cultivating this intention slightly, look intently at the essence of your own mind. When searching, there is no establishment in any essence such as color or shape. Decide that the mind is unborn and unreal. By looking at the essence of the intention of emptiness itself, it vanishes into nothingness, and in that state, relax and let go. That state should be meditated on again and again. In between sessions, act like a person of illusion. As it is said, no matter what activity is done during the session break, whatever appears should be determined to appear without being like an illusion, and this intention should be continuously cultivated. Meditating on Conventional Bodhicitta. Second, regarding conventional Bodhicitta, there are three parts: preliminary, actual, and subsequent. The first is to meditate on loving-kindness and compassion. Among them, the first is to meditate on the superior object, such as parents, friends, etc. who are kind and close, as well as the three lower realms who suffer greatly, and other people who experience various sufferings, and those who have great sins, although they may have wealth and power in this life, etc., those who have committed great sins and are sure to be born in hell immediately after death should be meditated on first. Then meditate on those who are difficult to generate compassion for, such as harm-doers, enemies, and demons. Then meditate on all sentient beings. Among them, first think about how your own life and your real mother benefit you. Similarly, since all sentient beings are none other than your own parents, they all benefit you in this way. Moreover, it is not just this one life, but countless lives of parents.

Therefore, all these should bring ease and happiness. Now, unwillingly enduring various sufferings, and moreover falling into the great cause of suffering, these are truly pitiable. How can I stop all the suffering that my parents are experiencing? One should generate an unbearable mind towards the suffering experienced by sentient beings as much as possible. Secondly, the main practice is: Alternately practice giving and taking. One should do this considering it as a fault. As it is said, cultivate loving-kindness and compassion as before. It is not beneficial to just say "compassion." One should think: I will take on the sins and sufferings of these beings, and I will give them my happiness and merit. Along with inhaling, all the sins and sufferings of all those beings ripen upon me. Along with exhaling, I think that all my happiness and merit are individually given to all sentient beings. One should also cultivate joy for such giving, this is one cycle of contemplation. Again, as before, along with inhaling, all these sins and sufferings, like scraping leather with a leather scraper, enter from the nostrils in a black, dark form and dissolve into one's heart. When exhaling, all of one's happiness and merit, in the form of a moon, shoot out from the nostrils in a white light and touch all sentient beings. One should think that they immediately attain Buddhahood. One should also cultivate joy for this. Thus, one should practice for every exhalation and inhalation. Thirdly, the subsequent practice in between sessions: Three objects, three times, three roots of virtue. Purify all conduct with words. The beginning of taking starts from oneself. As it is said, attachment arises towards pleasant and agreeable objects, hatred arises towards harmful and disagreeable objects, and a mind of ignorance arises towards neutral objects, not knowing anything clearly. When these arise, one should think: May all the afflictions and three poisons of all sentient beings gather upon me. May they be free from afflictions. May I take on the place of their afflictions. By thinking in this way, the three poisons are transformed into roots of virtue. At all times, may their sins ripen upon me, and may all my virtues ripen upon them. And, may all benefits and victories go to
