All the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas of the ten directions, including the root and lineage Gurus, and all objects of refuge and reliance, dissolve into the Sixteen Arhats like water merging into water. The Sixteen Arhats dissolve into Shakyamuni Buddha. Shakyamuni Buddha also dissolves into oneself, so that without examination, one sees oneself as Shakyamuni. Upon slight examination, one sees in each pore of the skin, Shakyamuni surrounded by the Sixteen Arhats. Upon thorough examination and analysis, what appears is emptiness, and what is empty appears. The union of appearance and emptiness, thinking this is the empowerment of the ultimate truth. Then, recite auspicious words such as 'perfect' and offer a mandala of gratitude. The subsequent conduct should be in accordance with the general practice. This is the order of the empowerment of the Sixteen Arhats. Written by Dzogchenpa Garwangchuk on the seventh day of the Saga month (Tibetan fourth month) in the year of the Monkey, the day when the fully enlightened Buddha was born, when the star was 'Gyal' (Tibetan, meaning victory), and proofread by Gungtang Kagyupa Chöjor Palzang. Mangalam! Mangalam! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
