If, despite all the aforementioned methods of averting [death], the signs that cannot be reversed have already arisen, then abandon the previously described visualizations and transfer the consciousness to the heart of the lama, blending it with the non-conceptual, self-aware wisdom of the lama's heart. Then, just as a rainbow dissolves into the sky, rest in equanimity in the suchness that is without object of focus, free from elaboration. If this is not possible, then continuously maintain the unwavering mindfulness that the lama's heart and one's own mind are inseparable, to the extent that it cannot be stolen by other circumstances, and then combine this strength of habituation with the clear light of death to perform the transference. The second [method] is transferring [consciousness] for others. First, clearly recollect the deceased, and with a mind focused single-pointedly, drawn by unbearable great compassion for the object of focus, visualize as you meditate. Visualize yourself as the lama in whom you have faith. If the deceased does not have faith in that lama, then you cannot visualize that lama; instead, you should visualize the lama in whom the deceased has faith, visualizing [him] in the form of Thodphrengtsal. Then perform the transference, transfer the consciousness to the heart of the lama, and rest in equanimity in the state that is inseparable from the lama's heart, free from elaboration, and finally, diligently perform the dedication and aspiration. The lineage of this [practice] is: Kunzang (普贤王如来,Samantabhadra), Dorje Chang (金刚持,Vajradhara), Dorje Sempa (金刚萨埵,Vajrasattva), Garab Dorje (噶绕多杰), Shri Singha (西日桑哈), Orgyen Chenpo (邬金大士,Padmasambhava), Nyida Sangye (尼达桑杰), Sonam Ozer (索南沃瑟), Sonam Pal (索南华), Sonam Chokyong (索南确炯), Natsok Rangdrol (那措让卓), Thukse Kunga Drakpa (图色衮噶扎巴), Drubchen Kunzang Dorje (竹钦衮桑多杰), Do-ngak Tendzin (多昂丹增), Trinle Lhundrub (钦列伦珠). Up to here, it is the oral lineage. The lama bestowed it upon me with great joy, and through practice, I gained some confidence and certainty, so I have recorded it as it is. These are the words of Mingling Terchen Gyurme Dorje. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
