Collection of Teachings by Master Taranatha JT412: Bringing the Three Paths Together. Bringing the Three Paths Together. Bringing the Three Paths Together. May the Guru and Yidam bestow auspiciousness! The way to practice by uniting the three paths is as follows: The preliminary and subsequent practices are like the illusory body of the six dharmas. In the main practice, visualize your own Yidam, the Supreme Bliss, on your crown, and with intense devotion, repeatedly pray, considering the Guru and Yidam as inseparable. Alternatively, you can meditate on the Yidam adorned with the Guru on the crown. Then, regard all sounds of yourself and others, whether heard clearly or not, that arise in reality and in memory, as the speech mantra of the inseparable Guru and Yidam. Whatever thoughts arise in the mind, regard them as the mind of the inseparable Guru and Yidam. Regard all appearances as mind, and deeply contemplate and ascertain the emptiness nature of the mind's arising, ceasing, and abiding, from the very beginning. In that state, whatever arises, whether it be the five poisons or ordinary conceptual thoughts, recognize its own nature and maintain awareness. This is called "self-liberation without abandonment." Recite this during all session breaks. Ascertain that appearances are the body, sounds are speech, and awareness is the mind. Devotion is the deity's body, appearances are one's own mind, and the mind is like an illusion, without inherent existence, or sever thoughts, or practice in a state that is inseparable from awareness. Remembering the kindness of the Guru who blesses you with the profound self-nature, perform the seven-branch offering and praise to the Guru and Yidam as one taste, and accumulate merit. When various experiences arise from this, combine them with the illusory body in which the six realms appear as illusions, and with the holding, training, increasing, and transforming of dream practice. This is the essence. Guru Path Practice: Based on appearances, transform the Guru 20-374 into the path. Similarly, devotion to the Guru, gratitude to the Guru, accumulation of merit to the Guru, and the self-arising of the Guru are transformed into the path. Yidam Path Practice: Appearances are the Yidam, pure appearances, accumulation of merit, and self-arising are the body of the Union Yidam. Illusion Path Practice: Appearances are one's own mind, illusion, dreams, and clear light self-arising are transformed into the path. Thus, it should be understood. In this way, appearances are understood as the Guru and Yidam, understood as one's own mind, and understood as like an illusion, clear, blissful, and self-arising.
