Commentary on Liberation from Bondage 18-16 ༄༅། །Commentary on Liberation from Bondage ༄༅། །Commentary on Liberation from Bondage ༄༅། །Oṃ svāsti. Having paid homage to the lama who is the essence of the noble Avalokiteśvara, this shall be explained. In the language of India: Bandha Vimuktopadeśa. Translated into Tibetan: It is called the Instruction on Liberation from Bondage. Homage to the noble Avalokiteśvara, Lord of Power. This is the homage of the translation. Although the meaning of this small text is profound and vast, to explain the meaning of the words briefly: Here, at the very beginning, through the door of profound wisdom, the instruction on self-liberation from bondage is shown: Alas! What is the cause of bondage? That itself is the path to liberation. Here there is no bondage whatsoever. Whatever is bondage, that is liberation. As it is said. Alas, is a calling out. The cause of bondage is affliction and conceptual thought, all sentient beings are bound by not knowing its nature. The yogi, knowing how to see the face of his own mind, transforms that very affliction and conceptual thought into the path of liberation. Here, there is no object of bondage, no agent of bondage, no bondage, nothing is established in reality. If one recognizes it as non-existent, then whatever binds worldly people, that will become the liberation of the yogi. The first verse shows the cause, basis, and time, the second shows the path, and the remaining two also show the result. Then, through the door of special methods, the instruction on self-liberation from bondage is: Desire becomes great bliss, Anger blazes with flames of clear light, Ignorance is non-thought itself, The three poisons spontaneously accomplish the three bodies. As it is said. Not only is recognizing the nature of emptiness taken as the path, 18-17 but there is also this profound and special method: without intentionally abandoning desire, through the condition of meditating on melting bliss, the nature of great bliss will be manifested. The clarity of anger itself appears as clear light and emptiness, and even when dullness such as drowsiness and heavy sleep are prevalent, there is an inherent quality of non-thought, so non-thought is taken as the path. The bliss of desire is the enjoyment body, the clarity of anger is the emanation body, the non-thought of ignorance is the dharma body, all are completely
