English version: In the Ekottara Agama and the Abhidhamma Pitaka, there are numerous categories such as the 'Collection of Six Questions,' 'Corresponding Arising,' and so forth. Furthermore, there are the 'Jataka Garland Praise' and the 'Pratyekabuddha Garland Praise.' Within these collections of the true Dharma, whether spoken by the Buddha, Bodhisattvas, Sravakas, various Immortals, Devas, or wise individuals, if one can generate benefit, even to the extent of understanding a four-line verse, whether reciting it oneself or teaching others to recite it, whether reading it oneself or teaching others to read it, whether upholding it oneself or teaching others to uphold it, whether explaining it oneself or teaching others to explain it, or if one respectfully makes offerings to Dharma teachers or to the scriptures themselves, such as offering various incense, flowers, banners, canopies, music, and lamps, or adorning the scriptures with various colorful bags, cloths, threads, and ribbons. Due to the power of these virtuous roots, when Maitreya Tathagata attains complete enlightenment, one will be born into a favorable human body. In the second assembly of that Buddha, with pure faith, one will renounce household life, leave home to practice, shave one's head and beard, don the Dharma robes, join the holy assembly, and, according to the power of one's past vows, attain Nirvana. This is called the second kind of karmic reward obtained by those who plant virtuous roots for the sake of the Dharma. If various kings and subjects, all donors, within the true Dharma of Sakyamuni Buddha, can plant virtuous roots themselves for the sake of the Sangha, or teach others to plant them, such as inviting Bhikkhus and Bhikkhunis in order or according to circumstances, offering alms on the first, eighth, or fifteenth day of the month, or going to temples to make offerings to the Buddha or to the Sangha, or serving them, or making offerings to those who cultivate meditation, or making offerings to those who preach the Dharma, or seeing someone who wishes to learn and propagate the true Dharma, listening to teachings from a teacher without hindering them, providing them with security, and not causing them to retreat, or establishing a five-year unobstructed giving assembly, or giving to the Sangha of the four directions, or donating temples and monasteries, as well as sitting and sleeping mats, or donating bells and chimes, or donating gardens and forests. Such acts of offering to the Sangha, due to the power of these virtuous roots, when Maitreya Tathagata attains complete enlightenment, one will be born into a favorable human body. In the third assembly of that Buddha, with pure faith, one will renounce household life, leave home to practice, shave one's head and beard, don the Dharma robes, join the holy assembly, and, according to the power of one's past vows, attain Nirvana. This is called the third kind of karmic reward obtained by those who plant virtuous roots for the sake of the Sangha. At that time, the great Arhat Katyayana, after extensively explaining the above matters to the assembly, then... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

English version: With supernatural power, he rose into the sky in front of the assembly, reaching a height of seven Tala trees (a type of tall tree). He manifested various inconceivable twin miracles, causing the audience to advance on the path of supreme virtue. Then, that venerable one, having displayed his miraculous powers, sat in the lotus position in the sky, relinquished all activities related to lifespan and life, and entered the realm of Nirvana without remainder. By the power of his prior vows, fire arose and consumed his body, raining down relics in the sky. At that time, the assembly lamented this rare event, vying to collect the relics and build stupas (Buddhist monuments), constantly offering various incense, flowers, jeweled banners, canopies, music, and lamps. This 'Record of the Abiding of the Dharma' has been transmitted from ancient teachers, recited and upheld without forgetting. In order to enable all kings, ministers, elders, lay practitioners, and other benefactors to understand cause and effect, to be weary of birth, old age, sickness, and death, and the illusory nature of the body like plantain trees, phantom flames, and bubbles, to cultivate various supreme virtuous deeds, to encounter Maitreya (the future Buddha) in the future, to be liberated from afflictions, to attain great Nirvana, and to generate love and joy, for the sake of protecting and establishing the Buddha's true Dharma so that it may not perish for a long time. The 'Record of the Abiding of the Dharma' spoken by the great Arhat Nandimitra. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
