English version: Know that the Tathagata (Thus Come One) is so secret and inconceivable, surpassing all measure and realm. Such texts are only for Bodhisattvas (enlightenment beings) above the tenth understanding, who can initiate the transformation and manifestation of the eight aspects of enlightenment. The sutra says, 'Some may fall into evil realms,' but this is not a real fall, but a broad statement. As the *Brahma-jala Sutra* says, Bodhisattvas before the seventh stage are called 'retreating positions.' If they do not encounter good teachers, they may lose their Bodhicitta (mind of enlightenment) for one to ten kalpas (eons), like Ratnakumara (Pure Eye Heavenly Son), Dharmadhana (Law Treasure Prince), Sariputra (one of the Buddha's foremost disciples known for his wisdom), etc., who, when wanting to enter the seventh stage, retreated into ordinary people due to the causes and conditions of encountering evil teachers, remaining in a state of neither good nor evil. Now, to explain this meaning, this is just a provisional statement, not a real retreat. The so-called 'understanding and practice of generating the mind' is located in the ten practices and ten dedications. Regarding the 'evidence of generating the mind,' the statement 'the third is because of the subtle arising and ceasing of karmic consciousness' is to explain that when Bodhisattvas generate the two wisdoms (fundamental wisdom and subsequent wisdom), they are not completely free from burdens, unlike the state of the Buddha. Therefore, there are still subtle thoughts, referring to the fundamental karma (fundamental ignorance), the non-corresponding defilements, which continuously operate and exist simultaneously with the two wisdoms. Therefore, saying that there are three aspects of generating the mind does not mean that karmic consciousness is also a virtuous practice of generating the mind, but rather that arising and ceasing is its characteristic. The statement 'manifesting a tall body in the Akanistha Heaven (the highest of the Form Realm heavens)' is like the verse in the ten-chapter sutra: 'The Buddha does not attain Buddhahood in the Desire Realm and the Formless Realm; in the middle, the upper heavens attain Bodhi by being free from desire.' Now, to explain the meaning of this sutra, if we speak from the meaning of the true enjoyment body, it pervades the Dharma Realm and is omnipresent. Saying that Buddhahood is only attained in the body of the Akanistha Heaven is because the form manifested by the Bodhisattva is a transformation enjoyment body, not a real reward body, but only manifested in that heaven. To reveal this meaning, it is called a realm. The latter two parts only require relying on the text, deeply generating faith, and diligently ceasing delusive thoughts. Do not cling to words and distinguish right from wrong, because of disputes. Now, to explain the meaning of 'afflictions no longer increase'. *Separate Record of the Awakening of Faith in the Mahayana* (End) Compiled by Sebu Auspicious Day, September, the 2nd year of Manji --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
