English version Regarding repenting for all past sins, those that have already occurred are beyond the reach of repentance, as they cannot be made to have never happened. However, the effect of repentance lies in preventing these past sins from manifesting in the present. This non-manifestation is due to the power of repentance. This differs from the meaning of severing the bonds of affliction (kleshas), because severing bonds is based on the path of arising and ceasing, preventing unarisen afflictions from arising. Repenting for past sins, on the other hand, is in terms of the path of continuity, preventing sins that have already occurred from manifesting in the present. Furthermore, severing bonds is to permanently sever the seeds of affliction, while repenting for past sins diminishes and subdues the seeds of sin, preventing their intensifying effect from manifesting in the present. In this sense, it can be said that the sins have entered the past. The Sutra says: Ananda (one of the ten principal disciples of the Buddha) asked: 'What is called repentance?' The Buddha (Buddha) said: 'Relying on the teachings of this Sutra, enter into true contemplation. Once entering contemplation, all sins will be extinguished, one will be separated from all evil destinies, one will be reborn in a Pure Land, and one will quickly attain Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi (unsurpassed complete and perfect enlightenment).' The Commentary says: This is the second method of practicing repentance. There are two parts to the answer: first, it clarifies the method of practice, and then it reveals its supreme benefits. First, 'Relying on the teachings of this Sutra, enter into true contemplation' refers to relying on the teachings of the Vajrasamadhi Sutra (Vajrasamadhi Sutra), breaking through the characteristics of all dharmas, which is called entering into truth. This is a similar true contemplation before the Bodhisattva (Bodhisattva) attains the first ground (bhumi). 'Once entering contemplation, all sins will be extinguished' is because all sinful obstacles arise from delusion. Now, breaking through all characteristics and entering into true contemplation, one can instantly break through all delusional realms, so all sins are extinguished all at once. Second, revealing the supreme benefits includes two sentences: 'One will be separated from all evil destinies, and one will be reborn in a Pure Land,' which explains the flower reward (the result of the cause, like a flower); 'One will quickly attain Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi,' which reveals the fruit reward (the ultimate result). The Sutra says: After the Buddha finished speaking this Sutra, at that time, Ananda and all the Bodhisattvas and the fourfold assembly were all very happy, their minds became firm, they prostrated at the Buddha's feet, and joyfully practiced it. The Commentary says: This is the sixth kind of practice and circulation. It contains four sentences: 'They were all very happy' because they were happy to hear the Dharma; 'Their minds became firm' because they were separated from all doubts; 'They prostrated at the Buddha's feet' because they respected the Dharma and revered the Buddha; 'They joyfully practiced it' because they were even happier when practicing. The profound and subtle Vajra Dharma, now I humbly believe and briefly record it. May this merit pervade the Dharma realm, universally benefit all beings, without omission. Vajrasamadhi Sutra Commentary (Vajrasamadhi Sutra Commentary), Volume 2 Humbly, for the boundless and everlasting imperial throne. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

English version: May the condensed auspicious and peaceful atmosphere forever envelop, and may the court and the people enjoy lasting peace. May the blessings of Duke Jinyang be as deep and vast as the sea, and may his life be as high and long as Mount Song. Furthermore, may my widowed mother and the servant of Buddha transform their groans of pain into joyful songs and possess enduring lives. I will forever remember the merit of this printed Buddhist scripture, which originated from the Dragon Palace due to illness, and I will donate to print and distribute it. Moreover, may the Dharma be spread throughout the entire Dharma realm, so that all sentient beings, in every lifetime, will never hear the sound of illness, will not be confined to the womb, but will always travel in the pure and wonderful lands of all Buddhas. Inscribed on the fifth day of the eighth month of the Jia Chen year by Upasaka (male lay Buddhist) Zheng Yan with sincere aspiration. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
