English version 'The Extensive Aspiration Prayer' Composed by Nagarjuna (Longshu Pusa) Translated by Imperial Translator Shihu (等) of the Western Heaven, Tripiṭaka Master, Grand Master of the Dharma Transmission, Minister of the Court of Imperial Sacrifices, etc., under Imperial Decree All kinds of sentient beings, throughout the endless past, present, and future. And the Buddha-fields are vast and boundless, those boundless fields filled with dust motes. Moreover, each dust mote transforms into a Buddha-field, the vast Buddha-fields as numerous as dust motes. In each Buddha-field, there is a Perfectly Awakened World-Honored One, as countless as dust motes; I universally prostrate to them. Those Buddha-fields multiplied by dust motes, in each field, I praise each Buddha. I constantly make offerings with a single mind, through eons as numerous as dust motes. I bow in reverence to all the Buddhas and the Sangha, I constantly take refuge in the Three Jewels. I gather all kinds of exquisite flowers, and numerous treasures, and universally offer them. If I have already generated all kinds of sins, I now repent of them completely. If I have not yet generated all kinds of sins, I constantly stay away from them at all times. All kinds of excellent virtuous deeds, I constantly rejoice in all of them. I dedicate this merit to sentient beings, and to the unsurpassed Bodhi fruit of the Buddha. As it is said in the Buddha's true Dharma, may my vows be firm and true. I constantly make offerings to all the World-Honored Ones, may I ultimately attain Buddhahood. May I be endowed with profound wisdom in every lifetime, always like Manjushri Bodhisattva (Miaojixiang Pusa). With compassionate heart, may I pacify suffering and save the world, may I be like Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva (Guanzizai Pusa). With virtuous and loving eyes, may I look upon sentient beings, may I be no different from Samantabhadra Bodhisattva (Puxian Pusa). With compassionate intention, may I skillfully observe all kinds of sentient beings, may I always be like Maitreya (Cishi Zun). May my generosity be like the inexhaustible treasury of space, may my adherence to precepts be like supernatural wisdom. The two perfections of patience and diligence, may I be entirely like Constant Diligence Bodhisattva. The power of Samadhi can subdue all distractions, may I be like Vajrapani Bodhisattva (Jingangshou Pusa). English version With profound mind and firm wisdom, may I always be like Firm Wisdom (Dṛḍhamati, referring to a Bodhisattva known for steadfast wisdom). Possessing unobstructed supernatural powers and skillful means, may I be like Vimalakirti (Vimalakīrti, a famous lay Buddhist figure). Skilled in protecting the good roots of all beings, diligent and courageous, may I be like Constant Courage (Nityodyukta, referring to a Bodhisattva known for constant effort). Skilled in expounding the Dharma such as the Pāramitās (Pāramitā, perfections), may I be like Inexhaustible Intent (Akṣayamati, referring to a Bodhisattva with inexhaustible wisdom). Endowed with immeasurable and wonderful sounds, may I be no different from the Wonderful Sound One (Mañjughoṣa, referring to a Bodhisattva known for beautiful speech). Close to virtuous friends without懈怠 (xiè dài, laxity in mind), may I be like Sudhana (Sudhana, the youth who sought enlightenment) in every life. Able to proclaim the Dharma like space without comparison, may I be like Ākāśagarbha (Ākāśagarbha, referring to a Bodhisattva whose wisdom is like the vastness of space). The earth can grow and nourish all beings in the world, universally benefiting them, may I be like Kṣitigarbha (Kṣitigarbha, referring to the Bodhisattva who vows to save all beings in hell). Pacifying poverty and suffering, benefiting all beings, may I be no different from the Treasure God (referring to a deity who controls treasures). Uttering endless wonderful Dharma treasures, may I be like Dharmākṣaya (Dharmākṣaya, a person's name). With firm and sharp wisdom, and always diligent, may I be no different from Sadāprarudita (Sadāprarudita, referring to a Bodhisattva who constantly weeps for the Dharma). These most supreme sons of the Buddhas, possess the most supreme and boundless accumulation of merits. Their names are vast and endless, may my name also be like theirs. This accumulation of merits from my praise of the Buddhas is the most supreme, excellent, and extremely vast. May all sentient beings in the world dwell in that most supreme accumulation of merits.
