English version The Dharani Sutra Spoken by the Buddha for Averting All Evils Translated by the Tripitaka Master Fa Xian, Minister of Guanglu, Great Master of Mingjiao, and Grand Master of the Court of Imperial Sacrifices, by Imperial Order from the Western Heaven. At that time, the World Honored One (世尊) told Ananda (阿难): 'I have seen that when disasters arise in the world, swarms of locusts and poisonous insects appear, and even mosquitoes, gadflies, tigers, and wolves increase everywhere, causing damage to crops or vegetables and fruits, thus gradually leading to famine in the country, afflicting sentient beings and preventing them from having peace. I will now proclaim to you the Dharani (陀罗尼) for Averting All Evils. If there are sentient beings who sincerely recite and uphold it, they will not only benefit themselves but also benefit others. If the person reciting wishes to accomplish the practice, they must first purify themselves, observe a fast, and generate a sincere mind. Recite the Dharani a full one hundred thousand times until it becomes proficient, and then you can perform the accomplishment practice anywhere. If the person performing the practice purifies themselves again, then recite the names of all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas (菩萨), requesting their blessings. Then, take a small amount of sand and place it in a clean vessel, recite the Dharani eight hundred times to bless the sand, and scatter it in places where there are poisonous insects. All poisonous insects will be averted.' English version: Sarveṣāṁ maśakānāṁ (15): To all mosquitoes. Sarveṣāṁ maṅguṇānāṁ (16): To all bedbugs. Sarveṣāṁ paśukānāṁ (17): To all livestock. Sarveṣām aśvānāṁ (18): To all horses. Sarveṣāṁ mūṣakānāṁ (19): To all mice. Sarveṣāṁ śukasārikānāṁ (20): To all lizards. Sarveṣāṁ sūkarānāṁ (21): To all pigs. Sarveṣāṁ markatānāṁ (22): To all monkeys. Sarveṣāṁ mālāṇāṁ (23): To all garlands. Sarveṣāṁ śasyaghātakānāṁ (24): To all grain reapers. Tuṇḍa bandha karomi svāhā (25): I bind their beaks, may all be accomplished. At that time, Ananda (one of the ten principal disciples of the Buddha), having heard the World Honored One proclaim this Dharani for averting all evils, rejoiced, believed, accepted it, prostrated before the Buddha, and withdrew.
