English version The Great Auspicious Dhāraṇī Sūtra Spoken by the Buddha No. 1381 The Great Auspicious Dhāraṇī Sūtra Spoken by the Buddha Translated by Dharma贤 (Fǎxián), Great Master Mingjiao, Minister of the Guanglu Court, Trial Attendant of the Imperial Secretariat, Tripitaka Master of Western India, under Imperial Decree Thus have I heard. At one time, the Buddha was in the Buddha-field of Sukhāvatī (the Pure Land of Amitābha). He was with many great Bodhisattvas and a multitude of bhūtas (spirits). At that time, the Bodhisattva Mahāsattva Avalokiteśvara (Guānzìzài Púsà) came to the Buddha's place, bowed his head to the Buddha's feet, and sat to one side. Again, there was a Bodhisattva Mahāsattva named Great Auspiciousness (Mahāmaṅgala), who also came to the Buddha's place, circumambulated the Buddha three times, bowed his head to the Buddha's feet, and sat to one side. At that time, the World-Honored One, having seen the Bodhisattva Great Auspiciousness, said to the Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara: 'This Bodhisattva Great Auspiciousness has a dhāraṇī. If, in the turbid and evil world of Jambudvīpa (the continent where we live), there are bhikṣus, bhikṣuṇīs, upāsakas, upāsikās, etc., who see, hear, rejoice, read, recite, receive, uphold, believe, understand this Dharma, contemplate and remember it, those who are poor and suffering will obtain great wealth and nobility, and even the bhūtas will universally love and respect them. Such merits cannot be fully described.' At that time, the Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara, having heard the Buddha's words, rejoiced and leapt up, and immediately rose from his seat, joined his palms, and said to the Buddha: 'World-Honored One, I now delight to hear it. I wish that the World-Honored One would proclaim it for me.'
