English version Thus I have heard: At one time, the Buddha was wandering in the Bamboo Grove among the parrot trees in the city of Rāmagṛha (capital of Magadha in ancient India). At that time, there was a foreign Bhikṣu (monk) who, on his way from the Bamboo Grove to Rāmagṛha, was unfortunately bitten by a poisonous snake, harassed by ghosts and spirits, and robbed by thieves. Seeing this situation, the Buddha went to the place where the Bhikṣu was. The illusionist Bhadda (a magician) also followed the Buddha. Bhadda immediately said to the Buddha, 'I have a very powerful and miraculous spell, and now I want to chant it for this.' The Buddha said, 'Stop, Bhadda. Do not let your spell cause any harm.' Bhadda said to the Buddha, 'In future generations, countries will attack each other, thieves will rob each other, those who hate each other will plunder each other, ghosts and spirits will harass each other, and poisons will harm each other. If there are Bhikṣus sitting in meditation under trees in the mountains, wearing robes sewn from various fabrics, or sitting in meditation in open areas, may the fourfold assembly (Bhikṣus, Bhikṣuṇīs, Upāsakas, Upāsikās) be free from any harassment, be safe and sound, and be free from illness.' Saṃghā śāri jīrṇe, utkṣāri, śūre, śūre, baddhi śānti bodhani, apaye, dāye, itti śāye he baddhi lauṣṭha dhā saṃghā kṣīṇe, śānti bodhani mantra hūna, biśa hūna. Chant thus: Cut off disputes, cut off all spells, cut off all illnesses. These Yakṣas (a type of guardian spirit) all perform this spell. Suma ghost, Mahāyakṣa (great Yakṣa), Ghoṣānanda Mahāyakṣa, Brahmakūṭa Yakṣa, Indra Ārakūṭa Mahāyakṣa, Agniścik Mahāyakṣa. These Yakṣas are revered among ghosts and spirits. My name is Induta, those who seek help, those who want to make people sick, those who want to harm others, I will make them all confused, obscure their vision, and make them invisible. Let everyone fail to achieve their goals. At that time, call my name and let them return.
