English version Taisho Tripitaka Volume 21, No. 1291, Ushnishavijaya Dharani Sutra No. 1291 Ushnishavijaya Dharani Sutra Translated by Tripitaka Master Da Guang Zhi Bu Kong of Daxingshan Temple under imperial decree At that time, Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva rose from the assembly, prostrated with his five limbs to the Buddha's feet, and said to the Buddha: 'I have a mantra, a mudra, and the mantras of three messengers, which possess the Dharma of great accomplishment. For the benefit and happiness of all good men and good women in Jambudvipa (the world we live in), I hope the World-Honored One will compassionately allow me to speak of them today.' The mantra is as follows: Namo Ratna (Homage to the Jewel) Trayaya (Three Jewels), Namo Arya Avalokite (Homage to the Holy Avalokiteshvara), Tadyatha (Thus it is said): Jaya Jaya (Victory Victory), Jaya (Victory), Vahini Dhutaari, Kara Kara (Do, Do), Mara Mara (Destroy, Destroy), Cara Kina, Sarva Karma Tarani (All Karma Obstacles Cross Over), Me Bhavati Svaha (May it be accomplished for me, Svaha). After reciting this mantra, evil karma is eliminated. Reciting it seven times, the five heinous crimes (matricide, patricide, Arhat-murder, causing disunity in the Sangha, and shedding the blood of a Buddha) are eradicated. If recited a thousand times, all sins will be eliminated. If recited a hundred thousand times, one will be able to see the various majestic forms of Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva. During the seven days, when first performing the ritual, one should only eat milk congee and ghee, and on the last day, one should not eat. On the night of the fifteenth day, recite before the Buddha without a fixed number of times. Upon seeing the image, utter a sound, praising: 'Excellent! Excellent!' and emit light. Then, place genuine jewels on the head of the mantra master, and one will know that the accomplishment has been verified. After seeing Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva, all good wishes will be fulfilled. Furthermore, if one dreams of the various majestic forms of Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva in sleep, all good deeds will be accomplished, and all evil karma will be eliminated. Continuously reciting the mantra will eliminate sins. Next, I will explain a mudra, also called the 'Benefiting Sentient Beings' mudra. With one mudra, one can accomplish thirty-two merits and various deeds. Cross both hands behind the back, and press the two index fingers with the two thumbs, forming a sword shape. Point the mudra towards the sky, as a heavenly canopy, and establish boundaries everywhere in the ten directions of the heavens. English version: Furthermore, to rescue and dispatch those who wish to subdue evil people, form a hand mudra with a single-minded focus, and chant with an angry heart one hundred and eight times. All sorcery performed by heretics will be destroyed. If someone suffers from heart disease, bless yellow earth and apply it to the heart; the illness will be cured. If someone suffers from a headache, bless with earth and fire. If someone suffers from an eye disease, apply blessed apricot oil; the illness will be cured. If someone suffers from swelling, bless 𫂵夫 (a type of herb) one hundred and eight times and apply it; the illness will be cured. If someone wishes to drive away demonic affairs, bless *Ruomu* (a type of tree) eight times; that person will be far from demonic affairs. Next is the general collection of messengers, the three masters, and the twenty-eight divisions. With the left palm facing upwards, move the thumb back and forth. The heavenly messenger, Vikala (also known as Pure Fulfillment), the secret mantra is: Vikala ehi ehye svaha Join both hands together and move them back and forth on the ground; this is the messenger of empty space, the great sage (Maharishi), also known as Vasi, the secret mantra is: Siddhaye svaha Point both hands towards the sky and move the two thumbs back and forth on the ground; this is the messenger of the lower realm, the master of water, fire, and thunder, also known as Maharaja, the secret mantra is: Om jaya jaya svaha These three types of messengers can eliminate the three calamities, eliminate the three attachments, and eliminate the karmic obstacles of countless lifetimes, enabling one to achieve Siddhi (accomplishment) in every lifetime. Moreover, there is no conflict between these three types of messengers. Power arises instantly, capable of destroying the turning bowl, binding, wooden union, and empty bowl. If someone perfects the merits of the mantra, they can ride the empty realm and become an immortal, summoning Devas and Nagas (heavenly dragons), Yakshas (demons), ghosts, and spirits, dispatching them at will, possessing especially potent Dharma power.
