English version At that time, the World Honored One told Ananda: 'Sentient beings in the world are deluded by true wisdom, and they revolve in the Three Realms, not knowing the root of suffering. They indulge in body, speech, and mind, committing the four grave offenses of killing, stealing, sexual misconduct, and lying. Such beings are truly worthy of compassion. I have a Great Eighteen-Armed Dharani. If sentient beings obtain this dharani and constantly recite it, the fundamental sins committed by these people can be completely eradicated, and they can accumulate immeasurable merits.' At that time, the World Honored One then spoke the Eighteen-Armed Dharani, which is as follows: Namo Amitabhaya (Homage to Amitabha, Infinite Light), Tathagataya (to the Thus Come One), Arhate Samyak-sambuddhaya (to the Worthy One, Perfectly Enlightened One), Namah Arya (Homage to the Noble) Avalokiteshvaraya (to Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion), Bodhisattvaya (to the Bodhisattva), Mahasattvaya (to the Great Bodhisattva), Mahakarunikaya (to the Great Compassionate One).
