English version The Holy Six-Syllable Great Brightness Dharani Sutra for Increasing Longevity No. 1049 The Holy Six-Syllable Great Brightness Dharani Sutra for Increasing Longevity Translated by the Tripitaka Master Shi Hu, Minister of the Honglu Temple with the title Chaosan Daifu, bestowed by Imperial Decree, from the Western Heaven. Thus have I heard. At one time, the Buddha was in the Jeta Grove Anathapindika-arama (Jetavana Anathapindika-arama) in Shravasti (Sravasti). At that time, the Venerable Ananda (Ananda) had a serious illness. Knowing this, the Buddha went to his place, spread out a seat and sat down, and said to Ananda: 'Listen carefully, I have a six-syllable great brightness dharani, which can eliminate disasters and increase longevity. If you uphold it, not only will you benefit yourself, but also the four assemblies—bhikshus (bhiksu), bhikshunis (bhiksuni), upasakas (upasaka), and upasikas (upasika)—will have peace and happiness throughout the long night, and be far away from all suffering.' 'Furthermore, Ananda, this six-syllable great brightness dharani was jointly proclaimed by seventy-seven kotis (koti, an Indian unit of counting, meaning ten million) of Buddhas, and the six great majestic teachers. The six great teachers are: 1. The Tathagata Arhat Samyaksambuddha (Tathagata Arhat Samyaksambuddha); 2. Indra (Indra); 3. Vaisravana (Vaisravana); 4. Dhritarashtra (Dhritarashtra); 5. Virudhaka (Virudhaka); 6. Virupaksha (Virupaksha). These sages, with one voice, spoke the dharani, saying:' Nandi li nandi li nanduri dhumari panari kulamchi madhumati svaha The Buddha told Ananda: 'This six-syllable great brightness verse has great power. If someone is frightened in the midst of royal law difficulties, frightened in the midst of great water difficulties, frightened in the midst of great fire difficulties, frightened in the midst of bandit robbery difficulties, frightened in the midst of enemy difficulties, frightened in the midst of all evil difficulties, frightened in the midst of battle and strife difficulties, frightened in the midst of evil star difficulties, when such difficulties harm the body, wholeheartedly recite the great brightness verse, protect so-and-so (referring to the reciter), and enable them to be liberated.' After saying these words, all these difficulties will be quickly eliminated. 'Furthermore, Ananda, if various sentient beings suffer from various pains, such as headaches, neck pain, eye pain, ear pain, nose pain, tooth pain, tongue pain, lip pain, cheek pain, chest pain, rib pain, back pain, heart pain, stomach pain, waist pain, hip pain...' -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 痛遍身疼痛。及泻痢痔瘘风黄痰癊诸恶重病。如前称念大明章句。佛大威德令一切日月星曜。罗汉圣贤发真实言。与某甲弟子应作拥护。息除灾患令得安乐。所有刀剑毒药。虎狼师子蚖蛇蝮蝎。诸恶禽兽皆不为害。疟病不着亦不中天。乃至阿波娑摩啰部多毗舍左。鸠盘茶等一切鬼将。悉皆远离不敢为患。 复次阿难若诸有情鬼魅所著。连年积月而不舍离。以此真言加持于线系患人手。时金刚手大药叉主。以忿怒力破鬼魅头令作七分。又令大智舍利弗大神通目乾连。持戒罗睺罗及汝阿难陀。皆来拥护令得安隐。若不尔者须弥山王。离于本处大海枯竭。日月堕落大地崩裂。如来应正等觉无有妄语。阿难此六字大明陀罗尼。神通威德得未曾有。若随喜听闻。是人恒得长寿无病众恶不侵。何况受持读诵书写供养。是名成就最上增益之法。阿难闻已信受奉行。 圣六字增寿大明陀罗尼经
