English version The Dhāraṇī Sutra of the Buddha's Heart Seal No. 919 The Dhāraṇī Sutra of the Buddha's Heart Seal Translated by Tripiṭaka Dharma Master Fa Tian of the Western Heaven Translation Bureau, Great Officer Chao San, Acting Vice Minister of the Court of State Ceremonial, Commissioned to Translate by Imperial Decree Thus have I heard: At one time, the Buddha was in the Tuṣita Heaven (one of the heavens in the desire realm, where Bodhisattva Maitreya currently resides), in a Maṇḍala (sacred enclosure) within a palace adorned with countless treasures. Numberless Bodhisattvas, adorned with excellent marks and characteristics, sons of the Tathāgata who understood the true nature of Dharma, all came from various Buddha-lands, prostrated at the Buddha's feet, and sat to one side. At that time, the World-Honored One addressed the assembly, saying: 'Virtuous men! There is a Dhāraṇī (a mnemonic device, a mantra) called the Buddha's Heart Seal, spoken by Tathāgatas as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River. Now, I benefit the gods and humans of the Tuṣita Heaven, so that they may obtain corresponding happiness. If virtuous men uphold, recite, explain, and listen to this Dhāraṇī, know that these people will obtain knowledge of past lives (宿命智), heavy karma will be eliminated, they will constantly receive happiness, and will not fall into the evil realms (地狱、饿鬼、畜生三恶道); they will be loved and protected by all, worldly and otherworldly wealth will be abundant and fulfilled, humans and non-humans will not invade or harm them, they will not be born in the realm of demons for thousands of kalpas (劫), and they will quickly attain unsurpassed Bodhi (Anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi, unsurpassed enlightenment).' At that time, when the World Honored One spoke this mantra, the palaces of the heavens, all the earth, mountains, rivers, forests, Sumeru (Mount Meru) and so on, trembled in six ways, and the great ocean surged and boiled. The demon king, worried and afraid, joined his palms in reverence: 'May the Buddhas of the three worlds, all the Bodhisattvas, grant me fearlessness. I and my retinue vow to protect the Buddha Dharma.' At that time, after the World Honored One spoke this Dharma, all the Bodhisattvas, and all the gods and humans, heard what the Buddha said, believed and accepted it, and practiced accordingly.
