English version The Buddha said to Ānanda (释迦摩尼佛的十大弟子之一): 'Virtue, the merit arising from merely taking refuge in the Three Jewels (Buddha, Dharma, Sangha) is not even one percent of the merit of one who can uphold the Ten Virtuous Actions. It is not even one-thousandth, not even one hundred-thousandth, not even a numerical fraction, a calculative fraction, a countable fraction, a comparative fraction, or even an Upaniṣad-kalā (smallest unit of measurement) fraction.' At that time, the World Honored One further told Ānanda: 'If a good man or good woman, having completed taking refuge in the Buddha, having completed taking refuge in the Dharma, having completed taking refuge in the Sangha, and even being able to uphold the Ten Virtuous Actions for the duration of a finger snap, the merit obtained from this cause is even more supreme. Ānanda, you should know that the merit arising from merely taking the Three Refuges, as previously mentioned, is not even one percent of the merit of concurrently practicing the Ten Virtuous Actions for the duration of a finger snap. It is not even one-thousandth, not even one hundred-thousandth, not even a numerical fraction, a calculative fraction, a countable fraction, a comparative fraction, or even an Upaniṣad-kalā fraction.' At that time, the World Honored One further told Ānanda: 'If a good man or good woman, having completed taking refuge in the Buddha, having completed taking refuge in the Dharma, having completed taking refuge in the Sangha, and even being able to uphold the Eight Precepts (Aṣṭāṅga-śīla) for one day and one night, the merit obtained is even more supreme. Ānanda, you should know that the merit of the Ten Virtuous Actions for the duration of a finger snap, as previously mentioned, is not even one percent of the merit of upholding the Eight Precepts for one day and one night. It is not even one-thousandth, not even one hundred-thousandth, not even a numerical fraction, a calculative fraction, a countable fraction, a comparative fraction, or even an Upaniṣad-kalā fraction.' At that time, the World Honored One further told Ānanda: 'If a good man or good woman, having completed taking refuge in the Buddha, having completed taking refuge in the Dharma, having completed taking refuge in the Sangha, and even being able to uphold the Five Precepts (Pañca-śīla) for the rest of their life, the merit obtained is even more supreme. Ānanda, you should know that the merit of upholding the Eight Precepts for one day and one night, as previously mentioned, is not even one percent of the merit of upholding the Five Precepts for the rest of one's life. It is not even one-thousandth, not even one hundred-thousandth, not even a numerical fraction, a calculative fraction, a countable fraction, a comparative fraction, or even an Upaniṣad-kalā fraction.' At that time, the World Honored One further told Ānanda: 'If a good man or good woman, having completed taking refuge in the Buddha, having --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

English version: ‘Having completed the refuge in the Dharma, having completed the refuge in the Saṅgha (community), and even being able to uphold the precepts of a Śrāmaṇera (novice monk) and Śrāmaṇerī (novice nun) for their entire life, the merit gained is even more superior. Ānanda, you should know that compared to the previous merit, this merit is not even one in a hundred, not even one in a thousand, not even one in a hundred thousand, numerical part, calculated part, reckoned part, metaphorical part, or even an aupaniṣad-aṃśa (an extremely minute part).’ At that time, the World-Honored One further told Ānanda: ‘If someone is able to uphold the Śikṣamāṇā (probationary nun) precepts perfectly for their entire life, the merit gained is even more superior. Ānanda, you should know that compared to the previous merit, this merit is not even one in a hundred, not even one in a thousand, not even one in a hundred thousand, numerical part, calculated part, reckoned part, metaphorical part, or even an aupaniṣad-aṃśa.’ At that time, the World-Honored One further told Ānanda: ‘If someone is able to uphold the Bhikṣuṇī (fully ordained nun) precepts perfectly for their entire life, the merit gained is even more superior. Ānanda, you should know that compared to the previous merit, this merit is not even one in a hundred, not even one in a thousand, not even one in a hundred thousand, numerical part, calculated part, reckoned part, metaphorical part, or even an aupaniṣad-aṃśa.’ At that time, the World-Honored One further told Ānanda: ‘If someone is able to uphold the great Bhikṣu (fully ordained monk) precepts perfectly for their entire life, the merit gained is even more superior. Ānanda, you should know that compared to the previous merit, this merit is not even one in a hundred, not even one in a thousand, not even one in a hundred thousand, numerical part, calculated part, reckoned part, metaphorical part, or even an aupaniṣad-aṃśa.’ At that time, the World-Honored One further told Ānanda: ‘If a good man or good woman is able to generate the mind of Anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi (unsurpassed perfect enlightenment), and uphold the three vows of a Bodhisattva (tri-saṃvara-śīla) for the rest of their future lives, without any deficiency or transgression, the merit gained is immeasurable, boundless, inconceivable, incomparable, most superior, most venerable, most supreme, and most wonderful.’ At that time, the Venerable Ānanda, having heard what the Buddha said, upheld the Three Refuges and even the Bodhisattva's Three Vows, the merit gained... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

English version: Immeasurable and boundless beings, rejoicing and leaping for joy, exclaimed with unprecedented wonder, and said to the Buddha: 'How wondrous! World Honored One! Such a Dharma gate is supremely excellent, rare, inconceivable, elucidating profound meanings, and its merits and virtues are vast and immeasurable. What is its name, and how should I uphold it?' The Buddha told Ananda (Ananda): 'Now, this Dharma gate is named 'Most Incomparable,' measuring all kinds of true merits and virtues; you should uphold it with this name. Why? Because this sutra speaks of the most incomparable Dharma, which is very difficult to hear in all the world.' At that time, Bhagavan (Bhagavan, the World Honored One), having finished speaking this sutra, the Venerable Ananda (Ananda), the great Bhikshu Sangha, immeasurable Bodhisattvas, and all the Devas, humans, Asuras (Asura), and others, hearing what the Buddha had said, were all greatly delighted, praised it as unprecedented, and faithfully accepted and practiced it.
