English version: Some were disheveled, tearing out their own hair; some said the king was wise, governing the country justly, and the people had no grievances; others repeated, 'The small countries have lost their protection, our honored king has now passed away, and the country has lost its majesty.' At that time, the Shakya princes washed the king's body with various fragrant waters, wrapped it in 'jie bo yu die' (a kind of fine cloth) and various silks, and then placed it in a coffin; they made a lion throne (an ornately decorated seat), decorated with the seven treasures, with pearl nets hanging around it, and then lifted the coffin and placed it on the lion throne, scattering flowers and burning incense. The Buddha stood respectfully with Nanda (Ananda, Buddha's cousin) before the coffin, while Ananda (Ananda, one of the Buddha's ten major disciples) and Rahula (Rahula, Buddha's son) stood at the foot of the coffin. Nanda knelt down and said to the Buddha, 'My father raised me, I wish to be allowed to carry my father's coffin.' Ananda, with his palms together, stepped forward and said to the Buddha, 'I wish to be allowed to carry my uncle's coffin.' Rahula also stepped forward and said to the Buddha, 'I wish to be allowed to carry my grandfather's coffin.' At this time, the World Honored One, considering that in the future the world would decline, the people would be fierce and violent, and would not repay the kindness of their parents' upbringing, established rituals for these unfilial people, for the beings of the future world. The Thus Come One personally bent down, wanting to carry his father's coffin, and at that time, the three thousand great thousand worlds shook in six ways, and all the mountains shook and submerged, like boats on water. At that time, all the devas (devas) of the desire realm, along with countless hundreds of thousands of attendants, came to attend the funeral. The Northern Heavenly King Vaisravana (Vaisravana), leading yakshas (Yaksa), ghosts, and spirits, in the number of hundreds of thousands, came to attend the funeral; the Eastern Heavenly King Dhritarashtra (Dhritarashtra), leading musicians, ghosts, and spirits, in the number of hundreds of thousands, came to attend the funeral; the Southern Heavenly King Virudhaka (Virudhaka), leading kumbhandas (Kumbhanda), ghosts, and spirits, came to attend the funeral; the Western Heavenly King Virupaksha (Virupaksha), leading dragons and spirits, in the number of hundreds of thousands, came to attend the funeral, all lamenting and crying loudly. At that time, the Four Heavenly Kings secretly discussed, 'Looking up to the World Honored One, for the sake of those who are unfilial to their parents in the future world, with great compassion,' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

English version: Then, the World-Honored One personally bent down to carry his father's coffin.' At that time, the Four Heavenly Kings all knelt down together, and simultaneously voiced, together saying to the Buddha: 'Yes, World-Honored One! May we be permitted to carry our father's coffin. The reason for this is that we are also disciples of the Buddha, and also follow the Buddha, hearing the Dharma and understanding its meaning, attaining purity of the Dharma eye, and becoming Sotapannas (Sotapanna, Stream-enterer). Because of this reason, we should carry our father's coffin.' At that time, the World-Honored One permitted the Four Heavenly Kings to carry their father's coffin. At that time, the Four Heavenly Kings each transformed their bodies, into human-like forms, using their hands to support the coffin, carrying it on their shoulders, the people of the entire country, all the assembly, none did not weep. At that time, the World-Honored One's majestic light became even more radiant, like ten thousand suns appearing together. The Tathagata personally held an incense burner, walking in front of the funeral procession, going to the burial site, Vulture Peak Mountain (Vulture Peak Mountain). There were a thousand Arhats (Arhat, one who has attained Nirvana), using their supernatural powers, coming through the air, prostrating at the Buddha's feet, and again saying to the Buddha: 'May the World-Honored One, instruct us what to do!' At that time, the Buddha then told the Arhats: 'You quickly go to the shore of the great ocean, and take sandalwood (Red sandalwood, a precious wood) and various fragrant woods.' Immediately receiving the teaching, in the time of a finger snap, each arrived at the great ocean, together taking fragrant firewood, in the time of stretching and bending an arm, they had already arrived. The Buddha and the assembly, together piled up fragrant firewood, placing the coffin on top, setting it on fire to burn. All the assembly, seeing the fire blazing strongly, all facing the Buddha, rolling and prostrating themselves, weeping even more sadly. Those who had attained the Way, all congratulated themselves; those who had not yet attained the Way, their hearts trembled with fear, the hairs on their bodies stood on end. At that time, the World-Honored One, told the assembly: 'All in the world is impermanent, suffering and empty, without self, without anything solid, like illusions, like transformations, like mirages in hot weather, like the moon in water, life does not stay long. You all! Do not see this fire, and only think it is hot, the fire of desires, is even more extreme than this. Therefore, you all, should encourage yourselves, to forever leave birth and death, then you will attain great peace.' At that time, the fire had already burned the Great King's body. At that time, the various kings, each held five hundred bottles of milk, to use to extinguish the fire. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

English version: After the fire was extinguished, they all gathered the bones and placed them in a golden casket. Right there, they together built a stupa, hanging silk banners and canopies, and offering various bells to the stupa and temple. At that time, all the assembly simultaneously raised their voices and said to the Buddha: 'Great King Śuddhodana (Śuddhodana, father of Siddhartha Gautama) has now passed away. Where has his spirit been reborn? We hope that the Bhagavan (Bhagavan, the Blessed One) will explain it in detail.' At that time, the Bhagavan told the assembly: 'King Śuddhodana (Śuddhodana), my father, is a pure person and has been reborn in the Śuddhāvāsa (Śuddhāvāsa, Pure Abodes) heaven.' Upon hearing these words, the assembly relinquished their sorrow. After the Buddha finished speaking this sutra, the devas, nāgas, and the Four Heavenly Kings (Caturmahārājakāyikas, the Four Great Kings), along with their retinues, the people of the world, and all the assembly paid homage to the Buddha and departed.
