The Praise of the Twelve Deeds The Praise of the Twelve Deeds ༄༅། །The Praise of the Twelve Deeds: Homage! With skillful means and great compassion, you were born into the Shakya clan, You subdued the armies of Mara, invincible to others, A body majestic like a golden mountain, King of the Shakyas, I prostrate to you! First, you generated the mind of enlightenment, Perfecting the two accumulations of merit and wisdom, At this time, your deeds are vast, you are the Protector of beings, I praise you! To accomplish the affairs of the gods, knowing the time for taming, You descended from the gods, walking like an elephant king, Observing the lineage, you entered the womb of the goddess Mayadevi, I prostrate to you! When ten months were complete, the son of the Shakyas, Was born in the auspicious Lumbini Grove, Brahma and Indra offered the supreme signs, Determining the lineage of enlightenment, I prostrate to you! The youthful, powerful lion among men, Showed his skills in Anga and Magadha, Subduing the arrogant, You became unparalleled, I prostrate to you! To act in accordance with worldly customs, And to abandon faults, possessing a retinue of consorts, With skillful means, You ruled the kingdom, I prostrate to you! Seeing the activities of samsara as meaningless, You left home, ascending into the sky, Before the pure stupa, yourself from yourself, You renounced, I prostrate to you! Thinking to accomplish enlightenment through diligence, By the Nairanjana River, for six years, You practiced austerities, perfecting diligence, Attaining supreme meditation, I prostrate to you! So that effort from beginningless time would be meaningful, Under the Bodhi tree of Magadha, Sitting in unmoving vajra posture, manifestly enlightened, Perfecting enlightenment, I prostrate to you! With compassion, quickly gazing upon beings, In sacred places such as Varanasi, You turned the wheel of Dharma, placing beings to be tamed, On the three vehicles, I prostrate to you! To subdue the evil opponents of others, The six heretical teachers and Devadatta, In the land of Kotis, you subdued the Maras, The Able One victorious in battle, I prostrate to you! With unparalleled qualities in the three realms, Unequaled crown jewel of the Shakyas, I prostrate to you!

在林中示现大神变， 天人世人皆供养， 弘扬佛法我敬礼。 为策励懒惰者修法， 在吉祥草城之净土， 示现不死金刚之身相， 入灭我顶礼。 为真实不坏之故， 为未来众生得福之故， 于彼处化现众多舍利， 分成八份我敬礼。 当您，双足之尊诞生时， 在此大地行走七步， 说道：我是世间最胜者。 彼时，我向智者您敬礼。 最初从兜率天降临， 于国王之宫殿入母胎， 在蓝毗尼园中佛陀诞生， 世尊，我向天中之天敬礼。 于宫殿中八母天女供养， 于释迦族中，青年嬉戏玩乐， 在迦毗罗卫迎娶具财富之妻， 我向三界无与伦比之身敬礼。 于四城门示现厌世之相， 于清净佛塔前剃除须发， 在尼连禅河边苦行， 我向远离二障过失者敬礼。 于王舍城调伏狂象， 在广严城猴子献蜂蜜， 在摩揭陀佛陀现证菩提， 我向智慧之光燃放者敬礼。 在瓦拉纳西转法轮， 在给孤独园示现大神变， 在吉祥草城入涅槃， 我向心如虚空者敬礼。 如是赞颂导师世尊之， 事业行持之少分功德， 愿一切众生之行持， 皆与善逝之行持相同。 此乃赞颂我等导师事业之大赞，相传为直贡觉巴所造，有说小赞为导师英雄所造。

In the grove, you displayed great miracles, Gods and humans all made offerings, I prostrate to you who spread the teachings. To encourage the lazy to practice Dharma, In the pure land of Kushinagar, You manifested an immortal vajra body, I prostrate to you who passed into nirvana. For the sake of true imperishability, For the sake of future beings gaining merit, In that very place, you emanated many relics, I prostrate to you who divided your relics into eight parts. When you, the chief of bipeds, were born, You took seven steps on this great earth, And said: I am the supreme one in this world. At that time, I prostrate to you, the wise one. First, you came from the land of Tushita gods, You entered your mother's womb in the king's palace, The Buddha was born in the Lumbini garden, I prostrate to the Bhagavan, the god of gods. In the palace, you were worshipped by eight mother goddesses, In the Shakya clan, you played youthful games, In Kapilavastu, you married a wealthy wife, I prostrate to your body, unparalleled in the three realms. You showed signs of renunciation at the four city gates, You shaved your head before the pure stupa, You practiced austerities on the banks of the Nairanjana River, I prostrate to you, free from the faults of the two obscurations. In Rajagriha, you tamed the mad elephant, In Vaishali, a monkey offered honey, In Magadha, the Buddha attained enlightenment, I prostrate to you who blazes with the light of wisdom. You turned the wheel of Dharma in Varanasi, You displayed great miracles in Jeta's Grove, You passed into nirvana in Kushinagar, I prostrate to you whose mind is like the sky. Thus, praising the master of the teachings, the Bhagavan, A brief praise of the manner of his deeds, May the conduct of all beings, Be the same as the deeds of the Sugata. This great praise of the deeds of our teacher is said to have been composed by Drikung Kyobpa, and some say that the small praise was composed by the teacher Hero.
