Sangye Puntsok's Instructions SP18: 'The Old Man Points the Way' 'The Old Man Points the Way' 'The Old Man Points the Way' Instructions. Having received the definitive guidance, first practice refuge and bodhicitta. Regarding the instructions of 'The Old Man Points the Way,' whether it is called mind, intellect, consciousness, or awareness, Or, as I, the yogi, say, the self-appearance is emptiness, this sudden awareness, remain without distraction in the state of recognizing it. If you cannot recognize it and become lost, then the clinging to 'I' will arise clearly, and this is 'I'. If you recognize this as the state of meditative equipoise, then this is the dharmata empty-clarity, the self-aware manifestation, like the emptiness of space, the all-knowing one of emptiness. This is rigpa (awareness). If you recognize your own nature, then this is the alaya, the tathagatagarbha (buddha nature), the essence of the Buddha, the dharmakaya (body of truth). That is also the uncorrected, primordial wisdom, the clear light of appearance and emptiness, that is what is called yeshe (wisdom). That is also all-knowing through emptiness, and through self-awareness, that is what is called rigpa (awareness). In this state of rigpa practice, praise the uncorrected self. Without clinging, self-liberation, continuously maintain this state of non-distraction. Afterwards, dedicate the merit and make aspirations. Maintain mindfulness and awareness during breaks, and strive to accumulate merit. Auspicious! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
