Admonition to Yogis: Performing a Tsog Khorlo Accumulates Great Merit. Admonition to Yogis: Performing a Tsog Khorlo Accumulates Great Merit. Furthermore, from the mouth of Je Rinpoche, from the mouth of Lama Rinpoche, performing a Tsog Khorlo for Yogis accumulates great merit. Yogis are those who unite Shamatha and Vipassana. Shamatha is single-pointed concentration of the mind; in short, it is the single-pointed concentration of the five senses on the five objects. From beautiful forms, the Guru and Yidam deities, to unpleasant decaying forms, or those that have decayed and turned yellow, and all the exhausted places, such as earth, water, fire, and sky. Pleasant and unpleasant sounds, delicious and unappetizing tastes, soft and rough tactile sensations—wherever the mind is focused, it is Shamatha. Among these, there are gradual and sudden approaches. The gradual approach involves focusing the mind on anything until it becomes single-pointed, which is called Samadhi with investigation and analysis. Accompanied by joy, it is near-tranquility, and mindfulness with complete purity of equanimity, where the entire body and mind become soft and pliable, able to be tamed in any way, giving rise to the five Abhijñās (supernormal knowledges). Furthermore, any single-pointed Shamatha will have the distinction of being blissful, clear, and non-conceptual. From this non-conceptual state, the five Abhijñās arise, the first being miraculous powers. Ultimately, the Abhijñā of knowing death, transference, and birth is the cause of arising, the basis of existence, and the condition of destruction. Even knowing this, it does not arise because it is not known. Observing the cause of birth, it seems to be conceptualization. Its root lies in the mind, which is secret and non-existent. This non-existence, this emptiness, due to ignorance, gives rise to the three: conceptualization, formation, and action, creating virtuous, non-virtuous, and neutral actions. Therefore, the discriminating consciousness that clings to "I" and "mine" arises, from name and form, the six sense bases, and so on, up to old age and death—this is the cycle of existence. Its root, the non-conceptual emptiness, the unconditioned, if known and realized, one knows that conceptualization is completely extinguished, and one abides and becomes accustomed to emptiness. This non-conceptual state becomes the sole Dharmadhatu, thus reversing from the cycle of conditioned existence. Then, in whatever way, conceptualization itself is known to be primordially peaceful, unborn, and without inherent existence, and it becomes

The nature of all things will be realized. By relying on a single-pointed state of mind for just a moment, the rootless vipassanā will be realized. So, what is this samādhi of śamatha called? In Kham Zla Shod, when someone's yak ran away, he stretched out his arms and shouted, "Ya, ya!" His mind became focused on that yak with its wiggling buttocks. Then, he sat in the lotus position and meditated, thinking, "Oh, so this is what it's like! People are so confused." He asked the monks in the monastery, and they said it was meditation and guided him, and he became a great accomplished one called "The Yogi Who Rides a Dead Yak." Also, during the Amitābha tsok offering, there was a person named Pakagom who only knew the letter "ཀ" (ka). By focusing his mind on it and practicing, he developed clairvoyance. When he saw someone drawing a bow and arrow, he asked why, and someone replied that the Amitābha tsok offering had been taken by enemies. This is also because the śamatha of focusing the mind on one point was not properly guided, so it was uncertain whether he would fall into the three lower realms or rise to the heavens. Hungry ghosts are also attached to food, and their minds are focused on desire, so they develop clairvoyance by focusing their minds on one point. The mind becomes one-pointed and is not defiled by conceptual thoughts. Therefore, the conducive conditions for this śamatha, including dwelling, clothing, food, etc., are encompassed by the five perfections. For those with attachment, if they place a skeleton or skull in front of them while contemplating impurity, it will create great merit. Because I had nothing to eat in the mountains, I consumed the unclear aspects of Jowo Thukje Chenpo (Lord of Great Compassion) by combining the substances of skillful means and wisdom. As a result, Thukje Chenpo awakened vividly, born from conducive conditions, and became the Buddha's eye. Also, in the context of the illusory body, the vajra-like samādhi is also this. It also removes the obscurations of knowledge and brings clairvoyance. The saying that appearances revert to the peak also refers to this, because the mind becomes one-pointed. By focusing the mind, all qualities arise, and faults are eliminated. A siddha gave a flute to a madman, and the madman was cured, so I think this is also because of focusing the mind. A distracted mind is the greatest fault, leading to heart wind and madness, etc. Therefore, focusing the mind means focusing on whatever conceptual thoughts arise, which is the instruction of the crow ship. Profound instruction, Jowo Thukje Chenpo.
