Explanation of Chapter Seven Explanation of Chapter Seven After that, it explains the case of the seventh mind generation lasting for a long time. Long duration here is a moment, and in a moment, one enters and exits cessation, and obtains the well-blazing perfection of means. The seventh bodhisattva ground, long duration, here is in a moment of mind, one enters and exits equally in the cessation of the nature of being free from all elaborations, it is not the manifestation of cessation, because in that ground one obtains the perfection of means that is well-blazing and completely pure. What is the nature of this so-called cessation attainment? The sutra says: Only the name of cessation attainment appears, and it is made incompatible by its great characteristics. Thus, the noble Asanga said: What is cessation attainment? With the desireless of the sphere of nothingness, and the mind that moves away from the peak of existence and abides in peace, preceded by the conceptualization, the non-stable minds and mental factors, and some of those stable ones, cessation is called cessation attainment, thus it is said that the state of the aggregates of the seven assemblies and their retinues that have ceased is called non-associated formation. This teacher says that suchness, which is free from all elaborations, is called cessation, and when the perfection of wisdom is attained in the sixth ground, how one enters equally into such cessation as desired is called cessation attainment. The commentary says: Entering equally into cessation is entering equally into the true limit, therefore it is said that suchness is called cessation, because all elaborations will cease. Thus it is explained. Therefore, cessation attainment is a special transcendental wisdom, and the hearers and self-awakened ones, because they rejoice in peace, will abide for a long time when they enter into cessation. Bodhisattvas do not desire peace, and are skilled in means, so from the seventh ground onwards, they enter and exit cessation in every moment, so they surpass the hearers and self-awakened ones with the power of wisdom.
