Geshé Drakpa Rinchen's reply: Geshé Drakpa Rinchen's reply: Geshé Drakpa Rinchen's reply: It is a question from the teacher Drakpa Rinchen. Abandoning what is to be abandoned by seeing does not necessarily depend solely on the actual practice of meditation that is without outflows. By relying on the immediate state of the first dhyana of a Stream Enterer and Once Returner, one abandons the seeds of what is to be abandoned by seeing. Relying on the actual practice of any of the four dhyanas that precede the detachment from desire of a Non-Returner, and relying on what is without outflows, one abandons what is to be abandoned by seeing. In the four dhyanas and the first three formless states, there are three coarse afflictions each. In the Peak of Existence, there is nothing without outflows. Even if one has attained the actual practice of the first dhyana, although one does not manifest it for the sake of abandoning the subsequent coarse objects to be abandoned, one must manifest it for the sake of manifesting qualities. This is the reply to the question asked by Ngariwa Drakpa Rinchen, given from the foot of the mountain, may it be auspicious! May it be auspicious! Geshé Drakpa Rinchen's reply:
