Gesh Rinchen Pal's Reply. Gesh Rinchen Pal's Reply. Gesh Rinchen Pal's Reply. Gesh Rinchen Pal's letter and reply. Regarding dependent origination, the views of various philosophical schools. Those who assert substantial existence consider the internal and external causes and effects to be substantially existent, and thus dependent origination. The Madhyamikas, who assert that dependent origination is merely imputed, are accused of nihilistic views that slander causality. The Madhyamikas believe that asserting the substantial existence of cause and effect leads to the extremes of permanence and annihilation. Therefore, they assert that internal and external causes and effects are imputed like illusions, and are dependent origination. They consider dependent origination, emptiness, and freedom from extremes to be of the same meaning. Those who assert substantial existence believe that the conventional truth of imputation cannot function, while the ultimate truth of substantial existence can function. The ultimate truth of a lower level becomes the conventional truth of a higher level, and so on, with many differences in inner understanding. The establishment of the two truths in Madhyamika can be understood in detail elsewhere. For consciousness, the proliferation of the apprehended and the apprehender is blocked by reasoning, and only the non-dual consciousness of clear experience remains. This is the ultimate meaning. Focusing on this is considered the ultimate practice of the Mind-Only school. For internal and external dependent origination, the proliferation of true existence is blocked by reasoning, and only the non-dual consciousness of clear experience remains, which is not blocked even by reasoning. Do not cling to truth. Practicing with the seal of emptiness is the yoga of the Madhyamikas. The way to practice dependent origination is not more excellent than what is taught in the stages of Madhyamika guidance. May it be auspicious! Gesh Rinchen Pal's Reply.
