Some Instructions from Miscellaneous Sayings Some Instructions from Miscellaneous Sayings Which instruction is the mother of good speech? Some Instructions from Miscellaneous Sayings are here. Which is good speech? In the sacred Vinaya. Having renounced, not properly guarding the vows, Violating the Buddha's teachings and rules, those monks are thieves of the world. To those who speak crookedly, others think they are stable. Speech is not dignified, because they are not true monks, Abandon the deceitful mind and its behavior, I always rely on those who speak frankly. To those who speak without restraint, others think they are brave. Not guarding speech, because they are not true monks, Abandoning nonsense, the behavior of madmen, I always rely on peaceful behavior. To those who adorn their appearance, others think they are dignified. Behavior is deceitful, because they are not true monks, Abandoning the flattering behavior of enticing others, I always rely on honest behavior. Self-satisfied behavior, others think they are upright. Not guarding the senses, because they are not true monks, Abandoning carelessness, vulgar behavior, I always rely on careful behavior. Those who do many things, others think they are diligent. Wishing for distraction, because they are not true monks, Abandoning mixing with noise, the behavior of householders, I always rely on few activities. Those who enjoy wealth, others think they are prosperous. Greed is strong, because they are not true monks, Abandoning being with possessions, the behavior of townspeople, I always rely on contentment. Those who wander in towns, others think they are taming beings. Pursuing fame and gain, because they are not true monks, Abandoning wanting profit, the behavior of merchants, I always rely on remote dwellings. Thus it is said. Instruction, the mother who guides the world. The guide of the world, the teacher of gods and humans, said: Attachment to desire is the root of anger. The qualities of desire are the cause of suffering, It is the root of disease, tumors, and pain. Just as a leper scratches an itch, A person with a fever craves water, A person tormented by thirst drinks salty water, Attachment to desire is never satisfied. Like delicious food mixed with poison, Honey on the edge of a razor, And a draft animal eating grass, The qualities of desire

Small greed, great fault. Like the bee attached to the elephant's scent, the deer listening to the hunter's song, and the fish attached to the meat on the hook, the child greedy for desires is quickly ruined. Thus it is said.

Atop the mountain peak. The movement of life and body is like the flow of a waterfall. Those who desire liberation should rely on mindfulness. Possessing the seven precious things, ruling over the four great continents. Enjoying immeasurable life, practicing the glory of the ten virtues. Experiencing the bliss of perfect higher realms. The glory of the Chakravartin king is also like a tree on water. Long abiding on the summit of Mount Meru. Enjoying the glory of joy and happiness in the garden of all gatherings. The thousand-eyed Indra, revered and bowed to by the assembly of immortal attendants, is also a servant of existence. Having long abandoned the suffering of physical and mental pain. Passing many eons with the bliss of Samadhi. The father of the world, Brahma, who possesses a golden womb, is also in the long cycle of existence, far from the state of immortality. Whatever it touches, even the steadfast Mount Meru, Is reduced to ashes in an instant. The garland of flames blazing on the body, Who can endure the pain of hell? Merely by looking, it can dry up the great rivers, And cause trees to bear no fruit. The form of a preta, withered like the top of a palm tree, Whomsoever sees it, is terrified and shudders. In the darkness of ignorance, confused about what to accept and reject. Devouring each other, sparks of Vajra fire. The rain of servitude constantly falling on the body, Who can endure the suffering of various animals? The perfections of existence are so insignificant, Knowing that they are filled with a multitude of faults, In order to liberate myself and others from the ocean of existence, The learned one, I, go to the solitary forest. Like a quail desiring rain hearing the sound of thunder, This talk of solitude falls upon my heart. In order to make the meaning of what I have heard meaningful, The youthful wisdom goes to the solitary forest. Like a flock of geese seeing a lotus lake, My mind is greatly drawn to the remote place. In order to take the essence from this leisure and fortune of a human body, The youthful wisdom goes to the solitary forest. Like a young bee seeing a garden of a hundred petals, My mind is set on the solitary mountain. In order to taste the nectar of Samadhi, The youthful wisdom goes to the solitary forest. Like the cool wind of the Malaya mountains in spring, The medicinal herbs of the forest fall upon my heart. In order to destroy the host of Mara's afflictions, The youthful wisdom goes to the solitary forest.
