A Chapter on Instructions Given to Three Fortunate Women. A Chapter on Instructions Given to Three Fortunate Women. Thereafter, Nangjung Paldron Gyalmo Tsün, in the turquoise temple she had built, invited Guru Rinpoche, the Second Buddha. She piled up silk brocades on a precious throne, offered many pleasing desirable objects, and after respectfully prostrating, the nun requested: "Please bestow upon me a teaching that is concise, profound, easy to practice, and enables one to attain enlightenment in the future without abandoning the world." Guru Rinpoche replied to Nangjung Gyalmo: "First, meditate intensely on impermanence. Then, gradually engage in refuge and bodhicitta. Then, supplicate the lamas. These are preliminaries and are indispensable. Then, with the body in meditative posture and a gazing attitude, like short, numerous drops in an empty room, relax the body and mind, loosen up, and rest naturally. In the basic state of emptiness, the still abiding, let thoughts wander freely. In the experience, let effortless action arise naturally. Do not cling to meditation; relax again and again. Whatever arises, good or bad thoughts, look at them nakedly. Like children playing, let awareness manifest various appearances without restraint. (Page 245b) Do not regard these as faults, but transform every encounter into an opportunity for the path. In the gentle circling of superior seeing, where mother and child are inseparable, the six consciousnesses reappear; blend appearance and emptiness as inseparable. These are the main practice and are indispensable. When meditating, everything is empty and devoid of anything. When distracted, delusion follows attachment to external appearances. Examine and analyze, then maintain without acceptance or rejection. Whatever arises, let the bliss blaze within. There is no need to meditate; the results of training will naturally manifest. This is not something made or accomplished; it is inherently present within oneself from the beginning. In this state, whatever you do, do it for the benefit of sentient beings. Engage in virtuous actions and dharma practices continuously. When obscurations are purified, realization will naturally arise. For the benefit of others, extensively dedicate and make aspirations. These are the concluding activities and are indispensable. Do not regard dullness and agitation as faults; trust them. Concise, profound, complete with preliminaries, main practice, and concluding activities. This is the essence of indicating benefit in this life and the next." Having said this, Nangjung Gyalmo attained liberation. Thereafter, in the rock cave of Yarlung Sher (in the Shannan region of present-day Tibet), Min's daughter Trashi Khyedren and Dechen Khandro Yeshe Tsogyal invited Guru Rinpoche and held a feast gathering.

Ya, root turning. When you, venerable one, go to the land of the Rakshasas, what should we two do? The master instructed, do it like this. (245b) Turn the attachment of body, speech, and mind inward. To those who are not satisfied, tell your own suffering to the guru. Do not practice, discard the scriptures with words and pictures. Discard the retinue and disciples who accumulate the defilements of competitive mind. Discard the woman who stirs up the mind and holds enmity. In the present and the future, let go of attachment as if dealing with others. From the crowd, whatever goes out, do whatever is meaningful. Do not be completely attached like a needle and thread. Outwardly offer to the Three Jewels and the Three Roots. Inwardly make hundreds of offerings to the fields and so on. In the middle, turn the Tsogkhorlo as much as possible. When unable to do so, give to the place of compassion. Think of the suffering of samsara, like a large bag. Do not let the demon control, let others urge you to obtain it yourself. The meaning is to eliminate internally, and attachment returns from the outside. The matter of accomplishment is only the supreme Dharma. Think that no one can be trusted, go alone. Reduce affairs, do not think too much, rely on the mountain. Friends, relatives, work, food, clothing, etc. After letting go of attachment from the outer, inner, and middle three aspects. Without remaining wealth, rely on self-sufficient food. Like a leper, occupy a low place and practice. Because you cannot trust all the Dharmas. It is like being deceived by a cunning friend. Before death, there is nothing that is not needed. There is nothing that is not needed, there will not be even one. The mind is like the pattern of incense grass, running on the edge. (246a) The arrow is rotten, the cushion is torn, even if you die, practice Dzogchen. Meet me forever, do not be disappointed. From the extensive biography of the reincarnation of Orgyen Guru Padmasambhava, the chapter on giving instructions to the three fortunate women is the one hundred and third. (Tibetan) () () (Literal meaning in Chinese) Chapter on giving instructions to the three fortunate women.
