The Chapter on Ordination. The Chapter on Ordination. Thereafter, I met with the two monks Shakya Mitra and Shakya Beshen, and asked, "Where are you two going directly?" They said, "There is a teacher named Prabha Hasti at a place called Red Rock Bird Shelter, and we are going there to ask for the Dharma." I said, "Then I will go too," and we went together. After meeting with Teacher Prabha Hasti, I said, "I wish to take the vows of celibacy with you. Please explain the rituals in detail." Hearing this, the teacher said, "I know the Yoga Tantras. If you practice that way, I can give alms. But I cannot be the abbot for ordination. The attendant of the Blessed One, Ananda, resides in the Asura cave. If you want to take the vows of celibacy, go there to take them." Without empowerment, one is not a vessel for teaching secret mantras. To introduce children, the five common empowerments must be given. And the Tantra of Purifying the Evil Destinies from the Tathāsaṃgraha, the Wrathful Conqueror of the Three Realms Tantra, the Mahā Jaya Yoga Caryā, and the Tantra of Discrimination of Actions from the Paramita, etc., all the Yoga Tantras were taught. As they were taught, they were all understood in the heart. The faces of the thirty-two Yoga deities were seen. Then, on the eighth day of the Monkey month of the Wood Horse year (Tibetan calendar), we went to the Asura cave. There were tens of thousands of monks residing there, who dreamed that one sun rose from one footprint, and the entire sky was filled with sound and light, sometimes appearing as the form of the Buddha, and sometimes only light appeared. In this way, many miracles were dreamed. Then, on the tenth day, on the day of the Hasta constellation, together with the righteous sun at noon, the two of us took ordination and were entrusted with the teachings. The earth goddess offered saffron-colored robes. The Buddhas of the ten directions came in the sky in front, and prayed to Shakya Singha, the lord of the teachings. When Great Kashyapa wanted to shave his hair with a razor, the blade could not touch the hair. When the razor was sharpened, it was seized by four dakinis. A dakini named Ear of Sound appeared, snatched the razor, and threw it into the sky in front. There, a stupa filled with razors appeared. Holding the appearance of a monk with the Vinaya, having conquered the four maras, he is equal to all the Buddhas. Hundreds of thousands of Bodhisattvas practice austerities.
