The Chapter on the Biography of King Indrabodhi. The Chapter on the Biography of King Indrabodhi. Then, since the king had no son, the sorceress divined, the astrologer calculated, and the priests performed rituals to invoke good fortune, saying that if he gave generously, a son would be born. The Dharma-protecting King Indrabodhi had five hundred and one great Buddhist scholars, and the same number of five hundred and one non-Buddhists, as well as the best offering masters, a total of one hundred and two, each perform offerings and practices to their respective deities. The king prayed for a son, and on the eighth day of the Monkey Year's Great Miracle Month, he opened three thousand treasure vaults of jewels. Then, to the self-arisen stupa resembling a scorpion, he made great outer, inner, and secret offerings. He proclaimed in all directions that whatever was needed would be given, but still no son was born. There was a hermit guru named Asena, who had seen the truth and attained accomplishment. He came with seven attendants and said, "Give us alms." When told that there was nothing to give, they said, "If we have no share in alms, then giving to others is meaningless, like pouring water away. We vow by the power of truth that it will be accomplished." The king's face (Page 43a) said, "Then please come and reside in my palace." The hermits spoke words of truth, praying for the birth of a son and the attainment of auspiciousness. The king said, "Let the consorts treat them with respect." While the king and his attendants went to the outer ocean to collect jewels, the inner and outer offering masters and one thousand and two great scholars, being utterly disheartened and despondent, prepared to perform a fire offering to subdue the evil spirits. All the gods and spirits gathered and stirred up trouble, with thunder, lightning, sound, light, and black winds raging, earthquakes, hailstorms, war, famine, and plague, causing the people of the Uḍḍiyāna region to be frightened and terrified. They jumped from the ground, planting nine kinds of crops, like taking small fish out of the sand. From the extensively arranged biography of the birth stories of Guru Padmasambhava of Uḍḍiyāna, the fifteenth chapter, the biography of King Indrabodhi, is complete. Om Dada Nya Jya Jya.
