Homage. Homaage. The source of all happiness, a priceless body. In the darkness of ignorance of the three realms. Holding the pure lamp that shows the path to liberation. I bow to Serlingpa, whose name is supreme and meaningful. After the Bhagavan Shakyamuni Buddha attained enlightenment, he turned the wheel of Dharma three times. After his passing into nirvana, the authors of treatises clarified them in sequence. These two, the scriptures and treatises, caused the teachings to flourish in the world. The teachings are of two types, the Great and Small Vehicles. The Great Vehicle is divided into Mantra and Paramita. The subject matter of all of these, directly and indirectly, is to abandon self-grasping and cherish others. That is, there are only two things to abandon: self-grasping, and to adopt: benefiting others. Therefore, those who practice the teachings must know how to incorporate whatever Dharma they practice into these two. Thus, they practice. If you understand it this way, you will not misunderstand the Dharma. You will learn on top of the Buddha's intention. Then, is it enough to practice these two meanings by simply looking at the treatises? It is not enough. Because the tantras are confusing, the texts are obscured, the instructions are hidden in the mind, and the six extremes are sealed, you must rely on the guru's instructions. Among them, with regard to the uncommon instructions of the Great Vehicle. The great Lord (Atisha) had the instructions of three gurus. First, he had the instructions he requested from Guru Rakshita. This guru actually cut flesh from his thigh and gave it as alms. The Lord said, "Although the view is inferior, you will surely attain Mahamudra now." This guru's view is the Hearer's Sarvastivada. The source is the Garland of Three Staffs. The reasoning is the Jataka Tales of the Sutra Pitaka of Ashvaghosa. The second is the instructions he requested from Guru Maitreya Yogi. It is said that he was a small Kusali, because he only focused on practicing Maitreya. This guru's view is non-abiding. The source is the Akashagarbha Sutra. The reasoning follows Shantideva's Compendium of Trainings and Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life. The third is the instructions he requested from Guru Serlingpa. This guru's view is not to abandon self-grasping, but to practice based on it, which is common with non-Buddhists. The source is the Vimalakirti Sutra. The reasoning follows the Bodhisattvabhumi.

This is the instruction passed down from the noble Maitreya. This Dharma that we are discussing now is an instruction received from Lama Serlingpa (Guru Suvarnadvipa). As it says in the Vimalakirti Sutra, "Seeing the aggregates as the root of beings is the seed of Buddhahood." Therefore, just as a lotus does not grow from the ground or a doorframe, but grows from mud, the cause of a Shravaka who has cut off the wet and dry roots of craving does not give rise to Bodhicitta. Bodhicitta arises in the mindstream of ordinary beings who possess all bondages. Therefore, relying on this self-grasping, one can cultivate the unique cause of Buddhahood, the Bodhicitta of exchanging self and others. Thus, this self-grasping itself is the seed of Buddhahood. Lama Serlingpa gave this to Jowo (Atisha) as the essence of his practice, and therefore Jowo had greater faith and respect for Lama Serlingpa than for other Lamas. I am happy to have a good and kind heart, and this is due to the kindness of Lama Serlingpa. The Lama said, "My lineage has blessings." Jowo said, "Those who come from the Mantrayana to the Paramitayana generally do not have an antidote when entering this Dharma." It is said that Jowo gave this as an antidote for practice to Geshe Tonpa. Geshe Tonpa had many disciples, but there were three brothers who were like chief sons. Chennga Rinpoche said, "First, there is equality, and then one meditates on exchange." It is said that this is the tradition of the yogi Lama Maitreya. Potowa said, "When I received it from the old Upasaka in the juniper grove of Radreng Monastery (Ra-sgreng), I heard that the tradition of Lama Serlingpa is to meditate on exchange from the very beginning." Now, we will explain the instructions of Potowa. There are seven points to this: the preliminary is to teach the Dharma of the basis, the main practice is to cultivate the two Bodhicittas, transforming adverse conditions into the path of Bodhi, summarizing and teaching the practice of a lifetime, teaching the measure of the arising of realization, teaching the vows of mind training, and teaching the precepts of mind training. Offering Praise.
